re the factory, the bits aren't as good as if you bought your own, hence part of his decision to get the non-factory
I found the low beam was actually better than the high, unless the high was badly adjusted. Switching to high results in the low being shut off, and the low had an excellent spread, with the high turning into a spotlight as you went around corners.
Overall, its a good bike indeed. Didn't completely mesh with the engine (it was also brand new, and had 80km on the clock), and vast majority of my riding has been inline 4, but I found the throttle had delay in it, as such, from opening to response. Little weird around roundabouts especially.
For country cornering, it is indeed excellent, with poor ol Zapf thinking I was going to arse off several times, when I was flicking it left and right into/through/out of most corners. Its extremely flickable. Brakes are a little harsh, and coupled with big engine braking can un-settle the bike into corners. Plastic tank provides little grip. Seat and riding position allows you to hang off very easily. Bike was set up on the soft side for me, but otherwise, I think it can indeed... get spirited... when you open it up a lot. Had it weaving a bit into corners when I pushed it a little, and you could feel it starting to get nervous out of corners (ECU is set for running in, so you only get some of the rev range to play with)
I need to ride some fricken ktms to get a better idea of which suits me more(and they have zero stock for 1-2 months

Gremlin, how does it compare to the hornet? Is it quntaum, or just a lttle better. Worth the extra 13k?
Some things are worth dying for, living is one of them.
Remember, the hornet in terms of a package is worth more than the 10k they are charging for in the first place.
The Hornet he is riding is not stock by anymeans. It has pipes / up rated suspension and MX bars. Where as the Tuono is stock. So one must keep that in mind when making the compare.
To answer your question, the Tuono is not worth in dollar terms 2 x hornet. But that again is because the Hornet is such a good package to start with. And again the Tuono is baseline, where as the Hornet is modded.
If we say the Hornet is "worth" say 15k new. Then in terms of a package the Tuono does make sense.
The Tuono is a better "package" (in terms of a sports bike), it is a out and out naked sports bike. With steering lock like one too. Where as the Hornet is a VERY VERY GOOD all around bike.
The Tuono is faster out of the box, it doesn't take much effort to ride it fast. The Hornet is slower, but a much more all round package. Yet as Gremlin will tell you it is not slow (and believe him I tell you).
So in conslusion, the Tuono and Hornet. Althou both are nakked. They are actually a very different bike.
note: The Tuono has Rennsports tires / Sachs suspension (average stuff). The Hornet has Pilot Road 2 / Ohlins rear and well sorted front.

Hi Zapf. The Tuono doesnt really run properly until you put on aftermarket pipes and switch to map 2. I also put a power commander on mine with custom map and it went better again (but only marginally). I have access to a brand new set of Leo Vince Titanium end cans if you need some at a reasonable price. PM me if interested.
The rear brake can be a pain in the arse. Hope your one works better than mine. The only other problem I had was the clocks constantly fogging up. Not sure if they have fixed that problem yet.
Apart from that, a brilliant bike. I had a fantastic time on mine on the HRC South Island trip last year. Almost as if the bike was made for it - mix of touring, twisties, high speed sweepers and track day inbetween.
Definitely stick an Ohlins on the rear and maybe consider an Ohlins steering damper. The stock one is crap. Have fun !!!!!!!!!!!
Nice looking bike mate. Did you consider the 08 fazer?
This must be killing Barbender.

I'm pretty brave when he's at the other end of the fish.
Time to update your sig Zapf?![]()
If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.
My problem is that I weigh so fucking much that any bike I buy pretty much needs reeverythinging in the suspenders dept.
So a Hornet plus front end (the ohlins rear from the VTR will fit with some change of length I think), plus bars, plus exhaust (got to be a single sided something there I think) = $13k
Touno, plus front and rear (these are chaep ex states) plus exhaust = 25k+
It's still twice the price, although the Tuono would be twice the grins (the hornet's not a slouch though, better than the SV1000 by quite a margin, even stock)
