    Honda VTX1800 information needed

    Hey Folks,

I am keen on a VTX1800, just like to hear from anyone that had ridden or have owned a vTX1800,

What i need to know is did you find it easy to filter through traffic or is it abit wide?

and just general info on what you think of the bike

Get hold of Jafar, he loves his one and will tell you anything you want to know.

    vtx1800

My brother has the VTX 1300 which I have ridden a number of times.
I found it a bit wide for filtering traffic (Upper hutt to WLG city) But otherwise a fantastic machine.
Erm I would definitley consider riding both the 1300 and 1800 before committing.

I have read a number of reviews of both bikes and I got the impression the 1300 was a better all round machine.

But ya gotta try both; because reviews dont mean squat, cos YOU will be the one riding the bike, and its YOU thats gotta be happy with it

    Good luck!

Have read some good reviews of the two Honda models mentioned here so that is positive opinion. I personally have not ridden either of the two Honda cruiser bikes but would like the chance one day. I ride a Kawasaki Mean Streak which is also in the cruiser category. The more drag style bars on my bike are narrower than the wider pullback or buckhorn style of the Honda bikes. However, your question focuses on filtering through traffic. The wider bars will have a slight disadvantage (for filtering) due to their width and require a rider who is very skilled or does not see the potential risk there. If you are not in a hurry then I suggest you seek out a friendly Honda dealer and organise a decent test ride and judge for yourself. I suspect you will get differing opinions here from different VTX owners here. Good luck.

Are you taking any prescription medication? [Rain Man]

Filtering isn't where the VTX's perform best, the standard bars are a wee bit wide if compared with a commuter or sports bike & can make dodging mirrors an issue. They can be changed to a narrower bar (drag bar) with little effort & minimal expense.
As you appear to be coming off a two fiddy you may find the jump in size a bit much. The VTX weighs in @ over 300 kg & is not a beginners machine, mabey a VT750c2 would be a better bike for doing the commute & general riding ??
