Team Suzuki still fooling around with two-strokes

These two photos were taken in Croom this weekend with the Team FMF Suzuki guys practicing before before heading across the state for the GNCC in Melbourne (USA) next week. Thats Charlie Mullins in one shot and I'm guessing that might be Paul Whibleys bike in the back ground. They had all their bikes lined up, half were four strokes and half were two strokes. I'm hearing rumours of problems with the four stroke but I'm not sure of the nature of the problem. Perhaps there is still life for the RM250!
Travis Pastrana's bike was there too but Travis was not there. You can see his bike on a stand with Paul Whibleys name on it. Pastrana will race on a full factory Suzuki RM250 two-stroke, courtesy of the FMF Suzuki GNCC team. Be great to see Paul on an RM250!

I hope Suzuki will continue with two stroke R+D.

Wasn't the marine side of 2 stroke gone into direct injection now? I can't see why they don't give it a go in dirtbikes, wouldn't it be much more fuel efficient and more power?

Bimota tried using the Australian designed orbital direct fuel injection system used on out board motors for their still born vdue 500 two stroke Gp rep bike, they could not get it to work. I always hoped someone else would take it up.

Long live the mighty two stroke!

KTM use a fuel injection and carb setup on their 125 and 250 gp bikes. I believe the problems with small 2 strokes and injection is to do with the fuel pump system taking too much power etc to run.

250 2 strokes are still the weapon of choice for alot of the GNCC Racers it seems.

With good reason. Its the factorys that are wanting to push the four strokes.

Also I guess it comes down alot to rider preference as well.

Good shit, I must say I agree with ali-s about the smell. To me the smell of a 2 stroke burning hard is the smell of supercorss/motocross (thus being the smell of heaven as a child)

Recently turned to 250 2T and i'm loving it. Broke my ankle and screwed my knee on it's maiden ride BUT still love it haha.

In saying this the modern 4 strokes are freakin awesome. First ride on a CRF250 was mind blowing. So much so that I went out and bought a bike 2 weeks later (it's been a good 12yrs since riding before that). The new 4 strokes got me back on the bike

    P.S.

I got told on the weekend (not sure how reliable this source is) that honda are looking at running a limited edition 2010 CR250. This would be mean!

Charlie Mullins won the round two GNCC in Washington Georgia this weekend on his Suzuki RM250.
KTM riders Nate Kanney and David Knight 2nd and 3rd.
Suzuki rider Paul Whibley came in 4th.
His Suzuki team mate Jimmy Jarrett was 5th.

Castrol R30, but I wouldn't use it in a modern motor. My old Tecumseh powered lawnmower gets a few drops in the petrol every now and then...Ahhhhh, teen memories come flooding back.....Ran it all the time in the TM125 and TR250 back in the '70's
