Ya big blouse Sparky- and we know what your new bike is !
I'll try and be modest but its hard because I'm absolutely blown away by today's runs on the blade. The early arrivals got wet riding over the hill but it quickly cleared.
Best news was Tony S didn't turn up, so us lesser mortals had a chance.
When I left after lunch I had the quickest flying at 5.13 secs (282kph) and best standing 1/4 at 10.02 secs but not sure what happened later. Don't care I'm rapt.
Poor Stonechucker was doing a flying run when some real bright spark and one of his mates on Harleys stop, then "cruise" around the road closed sign, between the cones and the official (he had a floro vest even) and ride straight towards SC! Put the shits up all of us watching. I think it was Mangel6 who leaped out and stopped the second bike but the first guy just rode on towards a bike closing on him at warp 1. Oblivious to the road closed signs, checked flags, timing gear, officials, cones, ambulance parked ahead, spectators along the bank. No this is cool, I can ride along here if I want, wonder why they stopped all the other vehicles back there? and why's this dude coming straight at me? Maybe I should do a U in front of him.
    That's entertainment I guess.

10:02 Standing?? I thought it was more like 10:08. Anyway good in anybodies language. The little 600 only managed 160mph. A black commodore mufti was lerking around towards the end of the day too. Passed it on the way home.

Is that the one with the "Bodyworks" sticker on the rear bumper?

Didn't see it from the rear. He pulled some cage over as I went past, at a rather gingerly pace I might ad.

good day out and good to catch up with a loada people. Big ups to Figjam from Akld who came down and has to be at work in Akld tomorrow morning for a meeting. Top effort that man.

Me and the 'Storm? 6.09 flying (237.83kph) and a 11.62 standing was my best. And they were the first runs of each discipline in the day. Either I was thinking too much about it in the other runs or the heat was playing with the mixture and affecting the speeds.

I'd be happy to get into the 5's with the flying, but don't think my clutch could handle a sub-11 standing... be worth a try though

Not sure who got the better of the un-official battle of the sports-touring V-twins, but it was good to see 4 or 5 'Storms there plus a SV1000. Although one bloke on a TL apparently told all and sundry he would kick our arses good and proper, and promptly left it parked up all day. Anyone we know?

    Cheers

Yep - a good day out in the waps watching nice bikes and sitting in the sun! There were some pretty good efforts by you guys that entered, and I saw my first Harley doing a wheelie! Good to meet you CNo6, don't know what other Kbers were there that I didn't already know. Roads were perfect on the way back (apart from a bit of cow crap) but there were so many cars on the hill that it was just painfull!

    Arrow Something I have noticed

My flying time was 5.56 secs, which is 260.04km/h. My speedo read at the very end 290km/h. I've noticed people exclaiming that bikes overread so much, and they do, but that 260.04 is the average over the whole run, so you can't compare it to the top speed that you saw on the speedo.

For that, you would need someone with a radar gun at the finish line, and you would have to glance down at the speedo as you went past.

I also noticed, that I went about 5 km/h faster this time, from being about 3 kgs lighter. I can't wait for the next sprints, where I hope my bike/rider combo will be about 25kgs lighter!

I didn't make it on the weekend but I was there last time. I too noticed a big difference between the speedo & the timed figure.

I clocked 227.3 kmph but the speedo was showing around 270 kmph. By the time I hit the start line on the flying 1/4 mile the bike was fully ringed out, I would have been lucky to accelerate more than 1 or 2 Ks between the start and finish lines.

    My theory is this:

The faster you go the taller the tyre gets (the tyre gets hot, centra petal force pushes the rubber into a taller profile etc). The speedo is calibrated for a specific rubber diameter, this diameter will change depending on tyre pressure, weight, temperature, speed, etc and therefore the speedo can only ever be an indication of speed.

I think the general rule is the larger the rolling diameter of the tyre, the faster the speedo will read.

Not sure if the difference is as much as people have stated though.

    Not me...

I'm still accelerating while going through the 1/4 mile, even at the end, which is a pity as it could go faster.

That would be centrifugal force. Centripetal force is the opposite effect that forces things towards the centre or axis.
