I had some young Asian girl jaywalking right out in front of me while on my bike in the CBD. She just wasn't looking and had my wing mirror clip her shoulder at about 20kph. (At the time I had only been riding for about a month and didn't know how to swerve properly). I pulled over to the side of the road to access the situation. Her boyfriend came up to me and demanded that I aplogise to her. I tried to explain to him that she stupidly walked out in the street without looking and it was as if she was trying to commit suicide. This guy didn't seem to understand what i was saying, so I just took off.

The next day i reported the incident for information down at the police station. The cop just said to me something like "bloody asian, seems to happen all the time".

I was so mad at the time that this girl was trying to put me in the wrong .

but now i just accept that it must be a culture thing.

hehe, what you need to do now andrew is use your bike to EDUCTATE them! Do what I do (if you're that way inclined). When you see them amble out (no excuses for not seeing them walk out!) get nice and close (1m is suitable but off to the side) pull the clutch in, hit the horn and rev the engine all at once! Wakes them up nicely and I can only imagine that they will be at least a LITTLE more careful next time.

I've seen some interesting panic stricken goose steps from jaywalkers doing this

    highly entertaining!

Marmoot... you're gonna have to expand for me. How is it more difficult to drive a car well?
