Ive also had a new front sprocket put on mine with an extra tooth so now its geared for 180 (no way its getting up there though, It just means the revs are lower at 100)

In the sprints my old one cracked the ton for real (not just on the speedo) was just under that (158 for real) stock. Needed a 'zorst and one tooth up on front. (to make 15 teeth i think..)
GSXR250 that I had was much faster but having owned both I would reccomend the GSX.

    NOT ALL IRCS ARE BAD
RX01 are the best value for coin tyre I have tried yet.
Geat for the GSX and much, much better than the touring oriented stock IRC's

Made 5 seconds per lap difference to me on manfield.

This might sound crazy (and maybe patronising so I apologise in advance) but....

Why the hell would you go up teeth on the front or down on the rear?

Acceleration on a 250 is lethargic enough as it is. Why make it worse to gain 5-20km/h in top end which you shouldn't be using on your learners anyway.

If you want a fast 250 for the track I'd say just get a ZXR/CBR/NSR/RGV/RS250. The handling alone on those bikes make them quicker round the track. The power is just a bonus.

Lower gearing doesn't ALWAYS make a bike accelerate faster.
Mine went from 16.06 with standard gearing to 15.75 with one tooth up on the front. different days and different conditions tho.

Definatly did make it accelerate faster in all practical situations we measured with two bikes back to back swapping things around over a fair few runs (not at the sprints but in a safe environment.)

I don't exactly understand the science of it but with more load on the engine from the higher gearing it seems to work harder and pull just as fast, maybe the motor can only wind up to redline at a certain speed regarless of how low the greaing is? seems time spent reaching redline is the same with either front sprocket but the speed at the end with the bigger one is greater.

Also mader it a better cruise on the motorway, dropping 6th gear revs at 100ish from 9000 to around 8000.

You could buy a faster 250, but I wouldn't reccomend a sports 2stroke due to the sheer cost of running the buggers and the sharper sports focus and generally speaking the age of the 4 cylinders amkes them far less desirable as a learner bike.

My ol' GSX did 400kay to tank ($26 bucks, prob $30 now tho)
$150 an end for IRC RXO1 tyres (not the standard IRC's, much sportier and really predictable profile) costs like that allow alot more time to be spent on the bike learing hiow to ride better.
That IMHO is worth alot more than the actual speed of the bike.
Mine did 60,000 kay (30,000 by me) without ANYTHING more than general maintenance before it got smashed up.
