Not sure really, just an observation.

But, I suspect thatwhen a site that isn't focused on a specific topic , the activity may be inversely proportional to the rules.

There may be a difference there between SB and KB. Arguably, SB is a specific topic site - limited to sportsbikes. Whereas KB is a general site.

Specific topic sites , by their nature, don't get many postsings, and usually have rules that are fairly tightly set. F'instance I belong to a forum specifically for 1970s Suzuki two strokes. Pretty specific, and that's what the forum is about. It's not geared to general discussion, or "chat" type threads. And, as expected, the site rules enforce that. Which is fine, because it's specifically a place you go to if you want to ask a question about 1970s Suzuki two strokes. But KB (and , maybe SB ?) are not based on any specific topic - they are general discussion forums.

And I think on such a forum the more the rules the less the posts.

    Call someone "nigga" on www.gameplanet.co.nz.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

I belong to a few forums that lik Ixion said are based on fairly spcecific topics with tight rules, great sites to learn on, but boring! No jokes or fun, KBer is a way better place to hang out! Never had a problem with the mods on here, and I reckon the do a good job.
"I came into this game for the action, the excitement... go anywhere, travel light,... get in, get out,... wherever there's trouble, a man alone... Now they got the whole country sectioned off; you can't make a move without a form."

Paved roads are just another example of wasted tax payer dollars.

Yes they are. Except on the site from which I stole them, the rules are enforced without exception, and if a post breaches a rule it is replaced with the words "See Rule 'X'". No exceptions. Complain about it and you're gone-burger.

    mmm my 2c...

KB has a real world attachment to it... where as most other forums are just online so you don't really know the person on the other end of the screen...

There's two sides to that argument on KB Tide.

There's those who agree and there's those who abide by the, "It's only the Internet!" mantra.

    Apparently you have to chose.

I guess if that was the case the number of members would drop dramatically. Also I could imagine some other might leave if it got too draconian. I've heard of trying to build the master race, but having the master members on a website really reminds me of organised religion...
Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.

That's funny you see, because a lot of these sites that have such 'draconian' measures are considerably larger than KB, and have no problem attracting more members daily. In fact some of them even charge for the service, yet their sites keep growing.

Nothing to do with a 'master race' either, just trying to provide an area where everyone can get something from, not just a select few. This isn't the first website to have rules, and it sure ain't as fuck going to be the last.

very true... but I feel that the "It's only the Internet!" mantra does not apply to KB... but that is like preaching to the converted blah blah blah...

I do think though our current mods are doing a fine job... not a job I would like...

I go to your Bullshit and Jellybeans section and I see a thread about depression, a thread about house for rent wanted, even a thread about fixing waterblasters. Not that different from KB really.
