    Sharpen up!

I'm not one to name and shame people but driving home today I saw a biker on the motorway who would be lucky not to get killed if he continued riding the way he was. To the rider on the 100cc *i believe* bike license plate 26GEM *i believe, it was dirty lol*, you were lucky not to get run over by three cars on the bombay pukekohe on ramp heading back to auckland. If your bike can only ride at 60-70k on the motorway, get a new one. I winced as cars narrowly missed you as well as trucks. Riding on the very far left hand side of the lane *almost on the white line/hard shoulder* is not the best idea and will tempt cars to overtake you in your own lane, as I witnessed. Please be careful and get a different bike or do not ride on the motorway as I do not want any harm to befall you as a result of some idiot trying to share your lane and hitting you. Ride safe dude. Sorry if i seem nana but I usually don't talk bout other peoples riding unless it's overly dangerous.

    Ride safe all

To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded

Shouldn't even be on the Motorway on such a little bike going that slow, IMO! Also, it wasn't said that this biker was a learner, just that he/she was riding slow on the shoulder!! Probably the most dangerous place to be is right... Hope they get a clue before it's too late.

that's not the point though guys. the 70 kp/h limit is so that learners will avoid the motorway. there are some people who are able to ride on the motorway with confidence though. they should get rid of the limit for people on restricted licenses

There is no 70km/hr restriction for Restricted Licence holders. Also, the original poster never said that this person was a learner! Although it does sound like it by the way they were riding.

On my L-Plate (displayed) I ride on the open road at 90 to 100 on the main road down here. I have even gone past Police at these speeds and haven't been pulled over. I like to think I ride responsibly in all other areas though, so don't draw attention to myself. I am considering applying for an exemption to this restriction on my licence.

I have been ticketed for speeding while on the L, they just started the ticket from 100kph not 70

IQ isn't a measure for intelligence although it does actually do pretty well in testing common sense

Simple solution is for learners to just not use the motorways, surely they can use whatever transport method they used for another 6 months whilst they 'learn' to ride on other roads.

Do u no what, I no this isnt a good thing, but ive been riding my m.bike for 6months with no licence at all ( and yes i no very dumb, and i no alot of u are goiung to say something about it)
i did my basic handling on my own bike and pased easy just havnt got around to doing the scratchy, any way.
Ive been riding the m.way every day and i could never imagine doing 70 unless on the on ramp, i think its a rediculous law. living in auckland and working in town it is impossible to avoid the m.way unless you spend half the morning filtering traffic going the long way. ( in return i would imagine being more dangerous ) and yes i no the train, bus ect is available, but it costs me a lot less(including mainting it im a tight ass with money and worked it all out over a year hense the reason why i havnt got around to paying for the scratchy test) riding my bike to work and home again than catching the train for $50 a week and a 30min walk home at the end of a long day.

Also i think there should be some sort of fast track programe in place regarding safety ect over a few saturday morning ( not defencive driving ) and in return getting your full quicker.

I rode at the speed limit on my L's, all the time. Never got ticketed for riding outside license conditions either. And I always displayed the yellow thing.

And for those who can already ride a motorbike and learnt general roadcraft in their first week of riding? What do they do? I know that the 70k thing for the majority of learners is a joke. Get rid of it.

By this I mean getting to a area and being taught by a rider with experience about situations on a m.bike, andvanced handling, braking ect not that stupid basic handling course i may of well of done on a pushbike. i found it in valuable and there was a guy there that passed who could not ride at all and let on the road will be a riding disaster.
