Ive done the coast road plenty of times, infact I drive it around 2 times a week in a cage for work. Roads getting a hamering from Logging trucks...there are tones that use SH35 as the coast is full of forestry blocks.

If you take your time and keep alert its well worth the trip. I'd do it every weekend if I could. There is a St Johns ambo at Te Puia which is within an hours reach of most of the coast road. Gisborne has tones of great places to relax...depends what you want really ie View, water, pools, flash, modest etc etc.

Gisborne is awesome mate, well worth a visit...infact I saw a KB'er in town the other day, she was riding a BMW...not sure who that was!
1990 GSXR 750 - want one, can be crap, can be awesome....pm me.

I wouldn't mind doing the loop did it years ago on a pushbike in 3 days. Is there much police presence on those roads?

Last time i was up that way we stayed at Hicks bay motel, Billion dollar views and a great feed!

There is so much you can look at, the ride could take days if you had nothing to rush for......

I find this useful for when I go east.

Gasoline Alley seem to do most of the fuel on the Cape. Phone ahead to check on opening hours etc.

hey.. I wonder if that was me?? I was riding a silver BMW R1100R. My kb patch is on the right sleeve of my leather jacket. Stayed in Gisborne Monday night, after riding round the east Cape from Opotiki.

ps: ya didn't come & say hello!!

Tis an awesome road TOTO but PLEASE make sure your bike is in at least the left hand wheel track (if not further to the left!!!) going round right hand corners.. shit.. the way some of them trucks hurtle round there.. any whiteline huggers.. wouldn't have time to blink let alone move their bike/body outta the way in time... before splat!

    Enjoy!!! & be safe!

Thanks For the tip, I have had a number of close calls with trucks and cars in the country. They just sometimes wonder on my side even on straight road ...don't know what thats about.

    Thanks All for the tips.
