    Top Speed on a L-legal??

There is a lot of talk of raising the Learners speed limit from the present 70kph but how many of us can easily hit the hundy or more for passing?? I know a lot of the "sprotsbikes" can get there, but what about the rest of us??

I would really like to know........

How fast do your 250cc bikes go learner boys 'n' girls?? I'll start the ball rolling:

Zongshen 250cc, dual purpose, only done 1300km so still wearing in, but can get to 87km/hr presently (digital dash for accuracy )

Ummmm... I think we can safely presume that I am asking how fast you have got to on a closed track... We wouldn't want this to GO INTERNATIONAL...
Missus: What the f*&k is that???!!!! Where the f*&k do you think that's going??
Me: It's a [insert old broken vehicle here] can't you tell?
Missus: Oh for f*&k's sake... [slams door]
Me: Phew, lucky she didn't see what's on the trailer!

Well, I hit about 175-180 km/h down the straight of Ruapuna on my little ZXR250A... It still has something left and I haven't even changed into 6th gear at that point. Mine is supposed to put out 45 hps at the crank and I've had it dynoed at 37.5 hps at the rear wheel...

A previous owner claimed he had taken her right off the clock - so it might reach something like 200 km/h, but I'd have to GPS it to know for sure eh.

The unrestricted 2-strokes 250s can put out upwards of 60-75 hps at the crank so they'll be a fair bit faster!

87km on 250cc bike? I did 120-130km on 150cc Suzuki FXR, sure it was sort of sport bike, still 87 for 250. Hmm

Yeah, already I get the feelin that there is somethin fishy goin on with the zonga. The stats claim 135kph top... It is a very up and down, single cylinder dual purpose, with knobblies. Also I only have 5 gears!!! How long does an engine take to wear in???

I got my GN250 up to 125 once.
The KLR250 has been up to 140, not bad for a dual purpose old crapper.

Indeed, even the GN will do 130kph at red line in top gear downhill with a tail wind.

I had a VTR250 that could see 150kph. It had only 5 gears.
I had an RG150 that could show 190kph (so it would be more like 160kph).

My RG150 has topped out at about 175k indicated, still has a lot more top end than a VTR250 - they seem to pull great and then just stop for some reason at about 150ish.

Hyosung GTR's and GT's will do 160 - 170 kph. Check out the YouTube of a guy on a motorway in Malaysia riding a stock Comet GT250 - he maxes out at 171 kph. Cruising at 110 kph and passing cars on the open road is no problem at all.
