2005+ Ducati Monster S2R 800?

Anyone got one, owned one or ridden one?

Wanting to know some first hand experiences with them such as reliability, handling, performance etc... they look pretty nice, and i've seen some killer mods for them, but i'd like to know how they punch for their weight, and if it'd make an ideal bike for long distance riding.

Na, Good bikes. Feel just like a s4r without the max power. But the 800 has a real nice power delivery. Not the fastest machine out there, but very fun through the twistys.
Dont any of the shops up there have any you can ride?
We dont, but maybe ride an S4R or a Monster IE. They should all handle about the same.

Im looking at some second hand ones, saves a few grand over what she shops are offering on second hand bikes. Will be test riding one soon, when this shite weather clears!

I've heard that the 803cc air cooled 4v engine is one of the easier (cheaper?) to maintain ducatis? You wouldn't know the servicing intervals would you?

I paid $12850 for it a little over 12 months ago.

I'm not too sure on an asking price but probably around the 11k mark would do the trick.

That's what I thought a while ago. Then I test rode a M900. Thought it was terribly boring. I don't know how it managed to make a wheelie from the lights feel slow. And the front end was heavy, though I wasn't used to bigger bikes at the time.

I'm sure the S4R would be more entertaining. Got to test ride that one then

Mate of mine has an S4R that he punts very well and loves. He rates his girlfriend's 800 the same way as SparkyB said. Down on power in comparison but a great bike to ride on the road and excellent balance between motor and machine in the twisties. He enjoys riding as much as the S4R. He would still choose the S4R if pushed.

Have not ridden an S2R but the S4R is a fantastic ride and certainly made me reconsider whether I would ever own a fully faired sportsbike again. Get a test ride, you will find some aspects are laughable, (exposed wiring, overgeared, bolts vibrating loose, etc), these are special bikes that take a little more understanding then a Jappa, however dont be put off because every time you ride one it will put a huge grin on your face and make you feel like king of the road. And all those minor problems are easily sorted anyway.

In my humble opinion, the S4R/RS series are the best looking bikes on the road, and the S2R is almost identical in that department, some reckon it looks better as the air-cooled engine is a bit tidier without all the hoses etc.

Apparently the 4V is fairly easy to service compared to the 8.

If you decide to go down the Ducati road good luck, and make sure you post some pictures!!
