    Filtering etiquette

I'm interested in other people's opinions on filtering etiquette. Just recently, I've noticed an increase in other bikes 'blocking' while filtering.
I expect it from cars (holding me up for ten seconds WILL get them to work faster, obviously), but why on earth do bikes sit holding up other bikes who want to get past?
Some of them deliberately. I've had two or three this week alone on the northern motorway in the morning.

Am I alone in letting faster moving traffic overtake??
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

Sure it's deliberate? Could be more reluctant riders waiting for the right size gap before continuing to split.....

    Or there's a ahead

Yup. Jabba the Hutt on a big antique Kawasaki earlier in the week. He knew I was there.. I'd even hooted at him a few times. He just pointed down at the floor.. I assume that means "I'm on a bike, you're on a scooter.. I'm fat.. stay behind me".

If you are a fat cunt on a cruiser, your bike is not entirely suitable for filtering. Buy a scooter.
Especially the owner-operator who rides the Upper Harbour Dr of an afternoon.

Yes, there has been an increase in "blockers". Luckily there is lane 1a.

I won't push through any gap. If I'm not happy I sit back and wait - I ride my own ride.

Pass if you can fit, but don't put me in danger, and don't rudely tell me to GET OUTA THE WAY, coz I get real stubborn.

When its your turn at the front then it is, when it's my turn at the front, then its not your turn.

If you're behind me and I'm up at the lights I'll leave room so you can get alongside and race me at the green light - its good fun!!

I won't move up front at the lights if it means I have to sit between a row of cars - thats dangerous.

I haven't actually had someone block me using a vehicle.. I have them follow VERY closely after I pass them. Whatever.. Mostly traffic parts in front of me like the red sea when I open my rowdy vtwin up.. comin' thru!! Why do they get outa the way so fast ? Do they want to see my bike, or am I scaring them ? Whole lines of traffic move outa the way like I'm a fleet of harleys or somethin.. I love it lol..

I don't "Get The Hell Out OF The Way" for someone who wants to go fast - I pay my road user charges, and sometimes I want to do it my way and thats tough, but generally I WILL fit you in as a matter of courtesy.

Once I blocked a lane because I wanted to get a look at some vehicle.. so what ? its my turn to have a look at something - its not gunna kill them to wait.. WELL, were they fucking IRATE or what ?? That got real nasty real quick. owch.

I filter at a safe and sensible speed, anyone who wants to go faster than that is going to have to find their own way around me. Actually, I'm doing them (and biking) a favour. They won't get hit by lane-changers and bikers won't get a bad rep which causes drivers to throw blocks in.

And to the Learner on the 600 on Tuesday splitting at 100 between cars doing 80 along Aotea motorway ... you'll get yours lad, one day .... and you won't be able to blame the driver

I like poeple like you, I usually sit behind slower people then me so I can calm my self down and keep my license a little longer.

How ever sometimes I just jump between the next lanes and go mental.

the reason people lane split is so they DON'T get held up. Why someone would think its cool or doing someone a favour by holding them up for no reason I don't know.

Have a little curtesy people, whether your following or in front.

I didn't say I was holding them up for no reason. I said I was already filtering at a safe and sensible speed ... and that if they wanted to go mental, then they could find a way around me. It's not my responsibility to allow them through to get crunched.

But I think that I filter at a safe speed, and so do you. What are the chances that we filter at the same speed? Just cause someone filters faster than you or I doesn't mean they are going mental. A noob would think we're both going mental, should they hold us up?
