I use the word so rarely I pronounce it "Eticketee".

Lane-splittering is NAUGHTY, so of course anything goes!![]()
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....![]()
No its not Grub. Like I said we lane split to save time.
Just be considerate of others, simple. Is it so hard? You'll be an OAP before your time at this rate.
Firefly, I'm not saying put yourself in any danger, safety first, but give the next guy some room, make it obvious to him you've seen him and are getting out of his way and all's good. Simple stuff. Someone might do it for one day. (Her's as well).
And DB, no we're not late for work, we leave later because we can, we leave later because it takes less time to get to work. Your logic is dumbfounding. I'm incredulous (sp?) (again).
Remember people, no one here is the fastest lane splitter, or the slowest. Treat others like you would like to be treated yourself. No one loves being held up by arogant whatevers, no one here likes being buzzed by a bike doing 50k faster than you.
Some things are worth dying for, living is one of them.
Seems Christchurch is good for commuting. I see a max of 10 motorcycles a day on my commute (whether going the same way as me or the opposite).
I've never had to lanesplit in the same space as another motorcyclist. Most often the ones that travel in the same direction as me ride like they were in a cage.
If I had someone come up behind and I got the feeling that they'd like to go faster than me, sure I'd pull aside and let them pass at the first safe opportunity.
I'm splitting because I loathe being held up by other motorists (I loathe the feeling, not the motorists that hold me up though - as a general rule). Holding someone else up would be worse to me...
Slightly off-topic: I've recently begun using left and right turning lanes to filter to the front of queues at the light. I find that not having to worry about whether there's space enough allows me to get there faster and safer. Anyone got some thoughts on this practice?
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)
Remember your humanity, and forget the rest. - Joseph Rotblat
I often use the right turn lanes as they usually sequence before the straight green. As long as there is room to squeeze in at the front..... If the cars are stationary and you indicate to turn back into the correct lane then i suspect its no different to filtering at the lights.
Hey each to their own, people split faster than me, some split slower. I rarely have any probs (diong the length of the NW each way every day), but sometimes wonder about bikes without mirrors, or those that are underused.
Easy peasy - as swoop said - if there's a bike that's caught up to you they seem to be going faster through traffic... find a safe place to pull over for 3 seconds, let them through - and carry on.
I don't see the harm in doing that, and I see no benefit in being a self apointed sherriff holding others to my interpretation of the rules where (lets face it) there are are no rules allowing it to start with.
Doesn't that make it hyprocritical? (Splitting and enforcing the rules?)

It's not even close to being the same thing. I don't tail gate the slow splitter in front; I'd still like him to move over and let me through. If you want to make an analogy, your splitting behaviour is more like a slow campervan climbing up a twisty mountain road with cars and bikes stuck behind wot can't get past. A polite campervan driver would pull over and let the traffic through.
We get no consideration from any other traffic most of the time; it would be nice to at least get some from other bikers.
Not quite sure how it becomes a me being late for work issue. And at no stage did i blame someone else, perhaps you need to pull your head out of your arse and read the text. Tho maybe its your turn to have your head up your arse right now and to hell with everyone else.
It seems to me that a few people are forgetting a bit of common courtesy when out riding. If you are holding anyone up no matter how fast they are or how slow you are, you are still the one holding them up, whereas with the manouvrebility of a bike you could step aside and let them go.
This thread sounds similar to the Muppet who said he would sit in the fast lane doing 110km/h in his cage and anyone whom thought he should move over were idiots as he was allready speeding and he was doing everyone a favour by slowing down the ones whom want to go faster.
Oh, thats exactly what you said. re-read below.. look !
See it's the "idiot cagers" and the "sheriff" that you appointed (he didnt appoint himself - your words) who are causing the problem, not your stupid lack of time management.
Less experienced riders feel really intimidated by hardass pricks on their tail. Go away and stop acting like you are the only person with feelings that are important. Sure YOU feel frustrated, but they feel AFRAID of you. Get a clue and back off.

While you sit there liking things just cos' everyone else does, I'll be standing up here keeping it real.
