Assuming that there is a place to pull over to - which there isn't. You see, I am getting bullied here over this, just like it happens on the road in the morning commute!

The reason I (we) are splitting is because the cars are either stopped or crwling. They are all tailgating each other. There is nowhere to go yet you insist that I get out of your way.

I'm not that partial to bullying ... anywhere.

Yes, I suppose there was a contradiction in my post. If there's no room for me to change lanes to 1a or appropriate, then there's probably not room for you to duck in and let me past.

On the other hand, are you saying that if you had room to pull aside, safely, would you do so if somebody wanted to get past? That's not really the impression I got from reading your earlier posts, spurring me to reply.

What has given me the shits commuting (shit scared not pissed off) is the guy that has to prove that he's "THE MAN"
I'd encounter these guys regularly on my way to work.
They would be riding along in the traffic stream or slowly splitting.
I'd come up behind em a tadd faster than them -Suddenly they have to win the race.
The throttle gets twisted back and you can see they are waaay outside their comfort zone.
I used to follow em figuring it's their skin That was before I realised it was safer to flip over to the l1/l2 split and just pass em and carry on
To see a life newly created. To watch it grow and prosper. Isn't that the greatest gift a human being can be given?

It's going to kill my street cred to say that I might have done that once or twice. It's more comfortable to split on your own than with filled mirrors.

On the other hand, perhaps this explains a bit of my grumpines, I was spliting down the on ramp from Ngauranga and checking the gap before comitting to it (not only is everyone merging but there was a bus and two trucks with not much room between). I was half between, half in the left lane thinking about it when a yellow/black motard came past me a good 40kmh faster than me, swerved around me into 1/4 car length gap on the right, clipped my throttle grip (just a nick) and carried on weaving in and out of both lanes as well as going down the centre.

Honestly I have seen more fuckwit/dangerous bikers than cage drivers on the morning commute - but we tend not to like hearing that.

See it's the "idiot cagers" and the "sheriff" that you appointed (he didnt appoint himself - your words) who are causing the problem, not your stupid lack of time management.

Less experienced riders feel really intimidated by hardass pricks on their tail. Go away and stop acting like you are the only person with feelings that are important. Sure YOU feel frustrated, but they feel AFRAID of you. Get a clue and back off.

So trying to get to work is now considered being late for work? Would that make everybody trying to get to work fit in the being late category? You think im a hardass when im splitting, couldnt be further from the truth but, oh well youve made up your mind about my personal riding style.

As for the less experienced feeling intimidated, im one of these less experienced and i too notice when bikers come up behind me(thats what the fricking mirrors are for) whilst splitting and i take any opportunity possible to move out of the way to let them go, and after all thats my main point, move out of the way where possible to let those going faster pass you.

Lane-splitting is dangerous enough without hardasses angrily lane-splitting the lane-splitters. Fuck off.

Dude are you fishing for Red Reps?

(Just in case you are serious though.....)
    You talk about safety... Tui!!!!

People who hold back other splitters ARE either inexperienced, know something's dodgey up front or tossers.

From a safety angle, you are now holding up bikers!
They will be getting a little frustrated and WILL be riding close and DIRECTLY behnd you!!! If you need to slam on the anchors, you will get someones front wheel up your arse. (If you are lucky).

You will also be using up valuable nano-seconds of awareness in trying to ignore the fact that bikers are close behind you and in doing this YOU are becoming another road hazard.

Let them go in front (as long as they are going faster than you).
That way they can wake up the sleepy cage drivers 1st. By the time you pass the cages, the drivers will hopefully be more awake.

It IS in your interests to let them go.

    Yup.

Back off, you pricks. It's just as much our road as yours. We bow to your experience etc etc yadda yadda yadda, now go find a track for your antics.

NO, I split as well.. what I'm saying is as in Grubs example, where he is fucken nearly trampled by some asshole who thinks he is too cool. Not to place you or anyone in this category, except they volunteer it - like you did.

not at all. you volunteered this information. Re-read please.

I do not disagree with you on this, I am of the same category - quite likely you place great value in your feelings, just as the next person does.

I take your point also, that the less experienced might allow the more experienced back to having their fun, and I agree with this, but not at any cost.

So we agree on some things, which is better than an hour ago. Sorry for the name calling ok. twas bad.

oh get real. at LEAST 50% of the above description is either blatantly against the law, or pure anti-social. NO I won't get off the fucken road coz you are in a hurry. If I can let you through safely then I will do that - no worries! But quit with the intimidating shit.

NOT FOR CERTAIN. Sometimes they know something you don't.
Like the traffic cop ya know is sitting in a mufty car just in front.

Absolutely.. I will give you that one!

If I am holding back because I see something up front and a bike catches up, then I will acknowledge their prescence and indicate what lies ahead if I can.

If they choose to ignore it and persist, fine. I will let them go, it's their choice.

Personally I do not like riding in packs.
I treat most people on the road with respect and don't trust any of them.
So if it is safe up-front and a bike get's too close, I will let them go.

Once they have got beyond a certain distance away, they do not pose as much a safety threat as they do sitting behind me.
