Could say the same about bikers too, some cocks and some good coonks.

Not defending the police in any way here, they are the biggest gang with the most resorces.

I feel for you dude! I made my own tail tidy which makes mine a little harder to read than yours as it's bent upwards.
You should check out reflector requirements to, as I'm pretty sure you need an "E3" mark on the reflector. You can't just stick anything on. Good luck with your fight!

I'm looking forward to seeing his embarrassed face when the judge throws this one out of court! Good to see the police are out there keeping us safe from people like me riding a bike that is not up to WOF standard huh!?

He is correct. Only illumination of the plate is covered by the VIRM, not mounting.
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!

Hard to complete the WoF without the plate though.

The reflected light must be red.

Exactly - no need to grandstand in front of the JP's. You can always give the prick shit as you leave with him anyway - even if you lose (but I can't see that happening, I can't even see it going to court myself) make sure you mention at least it kept you off the road for the morning while my mates went for a ride up SH16 unhindered. I've yet to encounter this coont but I'm actually looking forward to it. Anyone got a picture of him? Poor ginger coont.

"I suppose it would be easy to introduce a reflector into the tail light and take a night photo of it."

    - these guys are on the nail! A night photo will show up REAL good for the Judge

Hello...??? The judge sentenced him, not the cop.

Go and take some photos of some trucks and trailers and present a number of different angles on number plate placement.

The other ticket, for not up to WOF standard - when I was in the mob that was not an ION offence (may have changed), but it would be interesting what qualifications the cop had to make that judgement. if he had have written the offence specifically for no red reflector, then that may be ok, but I'm not sure that is a requirement for a vehicle being operated during the day anyway.
Don't think it needs to be 45 degrees, just needs to be visible frm the rear.

Not up to WOF standard did go, but it is back again... Don't need too many qualifications for worn tyres, broken lights, missing wheel nuts, most are plainly obvious problems...

Could be right about the daytime thing... why have reflectors in the daytime?

I didn't reply to that...just thought to myself what a cock!
If it gets to court, point out this quote to the judge. He is being a cock.

    Good luck.
Bollocks. Doesn't have to decide anything. Can be stopped for a licence check, WOF check, alcohol check just to name a few.

The reflector issue is the supposed "not up to WOF standard" issue... He had a current WOF, now has a new one because of the ticket, and nothing changed, which means it was up to WOF standard after all in the first place???

Can't see it getting there either from the photos supplied, it is clearly visible. Careful about baiting him though, he isn't the only cop out there patrolling... It may only encourage him to go harder with an anti bike sentiment....

so what has a number plate got to do with safety?

The only purpose of a number plate is to give the cops a cheating chance if they dont actually catch you there and then.

If it is involved in a hit and run, then there is an avenue to find the drunken kiddie killer perhaps... or the rapist fleeing the scene of a crime?

These examples are a little over the top, but hey, plenty of reasons for them to be had... Or to make sure you paid your ACC levy and tax...
