    Best all-rounder ? WR 450 ? KTM EXC 450 ? 520 ?

Wanting a road registered trail bike, want the best allrounder for track, road, river, forest.
Mate who has had both makes and various sizes is upgrading to his second KTM - 520 to 530, hes a mechanic and swears by them - easier to adjust valve clearances etc - said tank etc has to come off on the WR, generally just put together smarter and better the KTM.
Had a go on a YZ 250F and that was a nice bike to ride, is their much difference in riding position on the KTM apart from the bars being set forward more out of the factory ?

    Cheers

Thanks for your point of views - yeah going to go for a 520 - 530 too much coin for this cowboy unfortunately.

Mediocre compared to what? Compare an all-rounder against others in its class, pick the best of the bunch and voila! you have the best all-rounder. Compare an all-rounder against a more focused machine and yes, you'll have a mediocre performance.

Don't forget options such as Husqvarna, Husaberg etc. Some good options in there.

WR450 for me, it can do everything well. Rips shit in the dirt, loves mud, sand and tarseal. Blows away all the allrounder comp - except maybe the exotics GasGas etc. Only weakness is it wouldn't have the long rangeability of an XR600 without wearing out....
