I'm with you on this and particulary as far as what others ride. I like my bikes and if they like theirs fine I'm not going to complain and I don't look down my nose at any bike and I wave at all riders - even surprise the ones on scooters at times but not you Deb, that wasn't me as we discussed.

As for a Rocket 111 or V-Rod as per the other thread, they'd be too bloody big to squeeze either one into my garage without leaving something else outside. Moral of the story - buy what suits you for whatever reason and stuff what anyone else thinks.

I think Honda is on sedatives?? Kidding

I dont reallt care what I ride, I know what I prefer though! I used to own a CG125, fantastic bike, did me year of good service until... well we wont go into that Im on a Honda CBR250 to get my skills back up after the accident. Im perfectally happy on that but I wouldnt mind another bike, I dont like Harleys but then again, Ive never ridden one so my opinion is worth Jack in a conversation about them.

Generally I keep my opinions to myself unless there is a dickhead who is talking Shite and is just generally wasting my precious air is when I get involved, talk shite to piss him off and then slag him to get him to shut up.
    PS: this never works

It's a defensive mechanism to insult other brands or models of motorcycles that we own. After all, we spend so much money on our purchases, that we must defend our fiscal integrity. If we have owned several brands and types of bikes then we become more tolerant of other makes and models.
I ran my first bike into the ground after only 3 years and could easily have called it a shit heap. But I still retain a warped affection for it and subsequently have remained a loyal Yamaha rider

I don't think it is any accident that apparent brand loyalty is highest amoungst riders that own bikes that require some commitment to ride or own.. I love my old Trumpy and Guzzi and parts are bloody cheap but jeeze... There is always something to do on an old vehicle...

Add in that you have to connect with a bike to get the best out of it. You utterly have to trust it 100% not to spit you into a ditch and so you tend to bond a little...

Some other person diss's your ride by daring not to wave and you can take it awful personal...

There's a lot of choice of motorcycles out there for your varied tastes. When you've gone through a chunk of bikes looking for the one for you at the start of your bike riding career you tend to think that brand x is the best because they offered what you thought was the best bike at the start.

Same thing happens with cars - how many Holden drivers out there would frown at a Mitsi Evo VII and vice-versa.

I'm a prime example - I like Yamahas. Actually that's not true - I LOVE Triumphs (Bonneville and Thruxton) but I can't ride them. The nicest most reliable thing that came close was my Yamaha. Now I get exposed going to the dealer etc to lots of Yamahas, and a smattering of other brands.... What comes to mind as soon as someone says "sporty bike"??? R1 of course. I have to look up what a ZXRQZZPY is ... you know?

Over exposed to my Yammy, but looking to move to a Triumph for style. Are these the best bikes in the world? For me, yeah - but my criteria are completely screwed! I can imagine Rossi winning MotoGP on a cafe racer style triumph - hehehehehehe!

Oh - and another reason that we are becoming more one-eyed? Because we are all dicks.

    not just bikes....

Its the same with cars, boats, RC cars, almost anything!

People have different preferences, thats cool because if everyone rode a ducati it would be boring.

What is a shame though is when people slag off other bikes without any other reason than "i heard they were crap".

These people are fools, and there are plenty of them, they often like to make brash statements without so much as thinking.

Personally i like to quiz them why they think that and then watch them squirm as they try to come up with a good reason.

I rode a TL1000s that i had problems with, clutch, water pump seal, suspension, but i felt more affinity for it than my gsxr!

Logic would dictate the gsxr is the better bike, but like a fellow mentioned in a previous post it not alway the "best" bike that we love.

    I dunno. :spudwhat:

I'm not a 'true blue' (or should that be, 'true red' ?) Honda fan, yet I've only ever owned Hondas (7). Except cars: Honda cars suck.
But it's not a conscious decision to buy only Hondas - it's just that every time I go to buy a new bike, I ride a few, and end up choosing the Honda. Some of that may be due to now being used to the Honda 'feel', so that Suzukis etc. just feel wrong somehow.

I bought my first Honda by chance: a lady who worked with my father was taken out by a brain-dead serial stop sign runner. Her bike was fixed up (much easier than fixing her 'broken in 6 places' leg), and I bought it.

My second Honda was bought because a friend had one, and I rode it, liked it, and one came up for sale.

Honda #3 was given to me by my brother-in-law in exchange for painting his roof and helping with his guttering. I would've liked a Ducati, but he had only the Honda.

Honda #4 was nearly a Ducati 750SS, but I was too slow. Then it was a choice between a VF500 and an RZ350, but the salesman talked me out of the Yamaha. Good decision: I had the VF for 7 years, and it was a very good bike.

The VFR was bought after riding a Triumph Daytona 750, Honda VT750, Suzuki B1200, VTR1000, and a couple of other bikes I can't remember. The VFR instantly felt right, a sign perhaps that I'd become too used to Hondas by then?

When I replaced the VFR, I rode a Suzuki RF900, an SV650, a VFR800, and also looked seriously at a GSX750. I decided to buy the VFR800, but my wife decided otherwise. I bought a VTR1000 instead.

I think if I'd spent more time looking at bikes and test-riding them, my wife may have persuaded me to buy a Ducati ST2 or 4, or a Triumph ST, or maybe a Yamaha. But I didn't, and the wife narrowly misssed out on convincing me to buy the VTEC VFR. So the VifFerrari it was.

And next? Maybe if Honda replaces the VFR800 with a V5-something-or-other, I might buy another Honda. Otherwise, this may be my last bike. :spudwave:
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....
