Had a mate when we were about 18 or so,we were on a dune buggy,and mate on his bike put the front wheel about 2" off the back of the buggy as we drove along a farm airstrip at 60km or so.Very good on one wheel he was,mind you he was a top moto x rider at the time.

Ginger Molloy is a forgotten hero amongst modern riders - in 1970 he was 2nd in the 500cc World Championship,a privateer on his own bike against the might of MV Augusta and Agostini,the winningest rider of all time.Ginger rode the new Kawasaki triple,considered impossible to ride and unreliable.No help for Ginger,he did it all himself.

Damn, I've just checked, and he was british. Ever since the early 70's I've believed he was a kiwi and born in Milton, but it turns out that was Great Milton in England.

He spent a fair bit of time over here when the Marlboro series was run and on the anniversary DVD made recently (which i have if you want to watch it) he does an intro on it.

Good point, however look at how much he improved the bike, i understand it's top speed originally was something like 55mph?
Agreed he wasn't our fast man in the twisties but damn he must have got something right to achieve what he did, pretty genuine bloke from what i know of him as well.

Because we're voting for NZ's most famous motorcyclist... Maybe not best, but most famous, and I'd say he probably is the most famous.

That's only because a movie was made about him and up until that time only few people had heard of him. The biking community in general had not but the racing community had.


Ask any one from my generation (63) who Ivan Major is and they will know that he was a speedway rider.

Fame is relative only to the generation that is aware of the indaviduals achievments.
