May be SuperDave but im not Superman

So yes it finally happened, binned it today at about 7.30 this evening. It could have been a lot worse and I have walked away with abrasions to only my left knee and elbow. Shit happens and it had to happen sometime, but I'm still kicking myself over the fact that this occured as a result of my own negligence.

Well, on my way home from a mates house I pulled over to reajust my jeans and my jacket with the bike resting on the kickstand. Stupid me forgot to pull the kickstand up and took the first medium right corner with it fully out.

I hear scratching, I'm leaning to the right, I'm not going towards the right, the bike keeps going straight, OH FUCKEN SHIT The damn kickstand dug into the ground, I went flying towards the right, luckily coming to a stop in my original lane after rolling several times. My bike fell on its side and slid across the middle line and to a halt in the opposite lane. Was going about about 45kph at the time of the fall.

Surveyed the damage to my bike, overall not too bad. The footstand is suprisingly not too badly damaged, just little kicker part is fully bent. Bike fell on its left side so the gear shifter was bent and have bent it back to a usuable position. Right mirror is missing and there is a crack on the left front fairing with some scuffs on it as well, also the clutch level and right handlebar has some shiny silver exposed now But the bikes seems fine, I rode it home from remuera to the north shore with no problems.

Oh well, I realise this was all my fault Oh well, shit happens, and it could have been a lot worse, could have injured myself a great deal more or damaged someone elses vehicle or what not.

You know, I've lost count of the number of times I've ridden off with the stand down. Luckily the spring on my bike ain't too hot, so it flicks up the first left corner you come to.

    Bad luck dude.

Welcome to the scratched bike club.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Yep, the CBR just cuts out as soon as it goes into gear with the sidestand down.

But luck mate, hope all is OK though. All though hard to say, better to learn this on a smaller bike thats easier to fix than a more expensive bike later on. Now your riding off procedures can be "Check sidestand, indicate, check sidestand, start off, check sidestand"

The main thing is you got up and rode home, so hopeffully it will become your new habit while riding-checking your stands up

    eek

Is there something about right confused with left in this story?

Kickstand is on the left, right? So wouldn't have dug in on a left hand turn?
    Cheers

Like most (all?) Hondas from about 1990 onwards.
It has its merits, I guess, but most of the time it's just a nuisance, particularly if the switch is dodgy, or not waterproof (which means intermittetn cutting out when riding on wet roads).
On my pre-sidestandswitch bikes, I've left the stand down a couple of times, but apart from the odd time when the rear wheel was levered off the ground, there was never any big drama. Usually some minor lefthand corner would flick it back up.

Anyways - glad you're not too bad, SuperDave.

Now get you some decent protective gear before the next bin.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....
