    Hey all

I didn't bring a camera, but I thought I'd add my two cents on the trip as well. First up, thanks also to the ride organisers and the people that came. I've been on a few tours before, but this was by far the best one I've done - partly because of the weather, the scenary and the roads, but mostly because of the people!

    Riders/ppl:

There were some real 'hard case ppl' on the ride and a good mixture of nationalities, ages and riding experience levels. In particular, I gotta mention 'ol Pocket cracker - he kept the weekend alive with his tales and jokes. There was also a strong Irish contingent on the ride that ensured a healthy dose of beers, fags and yarns occured. As with most KB events / motorcyclists though, there weren't any egos and no Shortland St drama etc - just good times.

    Roads:

Roads were great, traffic was never really an issue - though on our exit and re-entry into Dorkland we heard of 3 bike accidents (I need to browse KB for some more info on these). Sitting at Wellsford Caltex re-fuelling there must have been 40 bikes lingering around! Anyway, back to the roads - usual NZ stuff really, cattle running loose, cow shit everywhere, a puppy in the middle of the road, some munter drifting on gravel, oncoming cars crossing the centre line on corners, cage-accidents, potholes, non-signed gravel patches, apple-sized gravel dropped on a hard surface etc etc. The good far outweighed the bad though, and without a doubt there were some fantastic stretches of highway!

    Riders / Riding:

As far as group rides go, I think this one on the whole was well planned with plenty of rest stops and relatively well behaved. I was amazed to see the skill levels of the learner / resitricted riders shoot up so quick over the 3 days - if only I could improve at a similar rate to you guys! The gravel was about as bad as it gets and only claimed the Dushmeister - so well done to everyone who made it through it (I was shitting myself too on my new Hornet...!).

    Accommodation:

The Whangarei mental asylum / horror house was fucken weird as to the nutty host. Fortunately, we all woke the next morning alive i.e. were not snuffed out in our sleep by the crazy owner...

    Funny Shit:

*The resilient Pocket Cracker and his interesting female conversing techniques, and the yet-to-be-seen 1,2,3rd gear mono!!!
*The special care I received several times from not-so-pretty Northland waitresses
*'Claus the lumberjack Toto' - shamelessly wearing his fluro t-shirt, red stubbies and motorcycle boots around the streets of kaitia and Whangerai!
*Dushmeister getting all the bad luck of the trip and brushing his teeth with a toothbrush that had been soaked in split 2 stroke engine oil
*Sinsiter doing a burnout in the Cape Reinga car park and popping his chain - then taking 20 minutes to put it back on again
*The evening musical performance of a certain GN owner from his ass (apparently all night long!!)

Plenty more laughs - but my brain just died.

BTW: 1100km from Westgate to Cape Reinga and back to Mt Eden. And it took me 4 hours to give my bike a full detail from top to bottom, oil change, chain clean and lube and remove pack rack etc. She's ready for tomorrow's ride (apart from the fully worn rear tyre).

Anyway, thanks again fellas! I'm looking forward to the next one.

I haven't started on that yet... might need to give her an oil change after thrashing her for three days in a row, the oil was looking awfully dark. Any advice?
