    The butt question

I love my bike - except if I ride it for more than about 90 minutes in one sitting, and then I get the arse-ache from hell. So my noob question is this - is this something I'm going to adjust to with more & prolonged riding (ie HTFU) or does my bike seat need professional attention of some kind?

Pardon my rudeness, but maybe your butt needs professional attention of some kind?

    had the same problem
got a sheepskin seat cover - problem solved - my butt now has a near 6 hour endurance [can't believe i actually said that - BACK you slavering dogs!! ]

------ but then, i don't drag my butt off the seat going around corners etc .... might be a tad problematical if you wanna do that ..... [using your own butt, of course ...]

I've learnt to hide the pain inside, open the throttle and ride away.

Most 250 seats are uncomfortable. Best bet is to get the seat re-padded with extra foam or you can buy 'gel' filled seats.

Well that is very surprising to me. My Wifes GT250R or my GT650R is very comfortable in the butt and back area, even after an extensive trip. Different story on the wrists, particularly when going slow.

I think ur ass will harrr-den after time. Same applies for wrists on a sportbike.

    Have you sat on one?

I'm not just trying to poke sticks, I find the general riding position quite comfortable. It's just that the seat seems to be too short or something and the harder, less foam-filled section towards the rear of the seat eventually gives me a sore arse, specifically in the posterior of the posterior.

BTW as a 250 cruiser it's not that little, but still smaller than I'd prefer.

When it comes to upgrading make sure you test ride a number of bikes with different capacities and engine configurations. The V-twin revs pretty low and doesn't vibe as much as a single pot but on the other hand an inline-4 sewing machine might not sound as nice but the vibes could be considerably less.

As for me I like my GT250R and found that "ride fitness" set in after about six weeks and 2500km from never having ridden before.

Check what you're doing with your butt. I used to have the same problem. A sheepskin gave me longer arse-endurance but still got sore eventually. (I actually scrapped the sheepskin idea after it slipped off during a ride and got minced between sprocket and chain ... unseating the chain in the process.)

I've since found that if I sit on the seat and make sure my buttocks are on top of the seat rather than sort of hanging down the side (pretty picture huh?) it's a lot more comfy. Just clench your butt cheeks together when you climb on board and see if it makes a difference. What I think it does is just puts more flesh between the frame of the seat and your pelvis.

    Eat more hamburgers..
Normally keeping the weight on your backside works...takes the weight off your legs and feet...maybe get a soft seat
I cop it in the kidneys after a long ride..
might get a belt and c how it goes
