New rider what bike to get

Hi Guys am wanting to get into riding. Did a few lessons when I was 14-15 didn't get licence then as got rid of bike I was going to ride (old gn250).

Have done a wee bit of trail riding with mates have driven cars and a 50cc scooter for a while. Had a few accidents including writing off said scooter.

Am getting licence and handling cert around the 28th of april and getting a bike hopefully then also.

Having an argument with my mum as she doesn't want me to go new As I am thinking of a Kawasaki Ninja 250R 2008 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_Ninja_250R

Instead of my original plan to get a 1994 honda cbr250rr.

My mum wants me to get something older as she says they will go slower. I point out as I have friends on bikes that they will do similar speeds and as I will be conditioning the Ninja I will be going slow.

Was wondering what your guys thoughts where on this I am willing to spend 9k including 2k of gear for a sports bike and am planning on getting the gear listed below.

Personally i think you should spend less on a second hand bike , if you bin it you ll save lots
if you buy new you ll loose lots , but great to see you want good gear .
save some of the money to get a new bigger bike when you on your full.

After all 9k will get a big bike

My 1st bike was a 1980 Suzuki GT250X7...I would recomend anyone starting to ride to buy one...I think they were the 1st 250cc two stoke to do 160kph...

Mine was pretty tired but still pulled a ton...

Had a full rebuild from SME when they were in Ballarat street...(And the fcking thing blew on me twice)

Crashed it many times....Just hammered things stright and keep riding it...

I bet you a 2008 GPZ 250 Ninja wouldn't go much faster than that...And would be 16times the price..

you dont have to spend a huge amount to get a resonable new bike. my 2005 gsx only cost me 4600 so my advise would be don't go new but try to get a good priced modern second hand bike.

Ninja 250. Parallel twin.

CBR250. IL4. Costs more to service just because it has 4 spark plugs rather than the Ninja's 2.

Ninja 250. 28-30 rwhp on a good day.

CBR250. 3-35 rwhp on a good day. That "3" isn't a misprint.

Price differential about $1500 less than a new Ninja for an 18 year old CBR up to about the same price as a new Ninja for one that someone has freshly painted. And nothing else.

Buy new.

It is vital that people stop buying ancient 250cc sports bikes for 1 million dollars.

Don't listen to crazy steve, he';s crazy. Good X5's (200cc) are going for CBR money. Good X7's are rare as rocking horse shit now.

M8 if I was you I would go for a trail bike for a few months
gives you experience on the road and taking it off road gives you the balance, confidence and handling skills so when you get a pocket rocket you will enjoy it more

for a second hand a Second hand Hyosung gt250R.

Not the fastest 250 but comfy, nice looking , not braking.

Ninja 250 is also very nice too.

make sure you have insurance from day 1.

Good on you for getting the gear to go with the bike. never wear without it.
