everyone talks about getting their knee down, but I've scraped a number of times and my knee doesn't get anywhere near the road. am I cornering wrong or something?

Like wheelies, getting your knee down on a public road is neither big nor clever.

But, lean forward more rather than 'out' (knee to elbow sort of thing), and concentrate on being smooth rather than trying to get your knee down.

And watch out for cats eyes.

Avoid trying to get your knee down on the road. Go find a carpark to practise in or have a try at trackdays.
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.

I don't think you're too likely to get your knee down on the road on an FXR150. Those skinny tyres, particularly if you're still wearing the stock plastic rim protectors, just don't offer enough traction to handle very fast cornering with significant lean angles.

If you go too hard, you'll get your knee down half the time and just fall off the other half.

Anyway, like Deano says, if you're trying to get your knee down, you're doing it wrong.

Lead with your shoulder and 'kiss the mirror' in corners. Don't forget to look where you want to go, not where the bike is pointing.

Your head and upper body need to drive your weight transfer, not your arse and knee. Shift a bum cheek off the seat to allow your head and shoulders to get further over, and let your leg flop out if you wish rather than tucking it into the fairing.

Eventually, on the right bike, that will result in your knee scraping the ground. Yay!

But, yeah, save learning to do it for the track. And probably for your next bike.

If you are getting around the corners alright then you can't be doing too much wrong. The late, great Mike Hailwood never got his knee down and look how fast and smooth he was.

sounds like you are sitting up on the bike, or leaning away from the corner. This way, you will clip a footpeg or an exhaust part on the road before you clip part of yourself.

The idea with hanging off the inside of the bike while cornering, is so you use less bike lean angle for the same cornering speed. Thusly, you clip a body part before a bike part, aka "knee down". The result is the bike is more upright and you can corner at a greater speed.

    disclaimer: noob!

like what has been said above knee down on the road is usually dum, and dont try because alot of people fall off like that, itl happen when it happens. and yea lean off the bike more and keep it upright.

'Everyone' talks about putting their heads in the gas oven too ...

'Everyone' keeps asking me for my bank acct details so they can transfer US$1,000,000 into it from Nigeria.

    Best not always follow 'everyone'
(esp when only 10% of those who claim to have their knee down on here probably have done it properly under control ...)

You should easily be able to get your Knee down on an FXR150 but to do it safley and skillfully find your neerest bucket racing!
An FXR is not only eligable it as a farken weapon when it comes to bucket racing.
