Red face HELP! I need a hand finding some bits of my bike on SH1

Does anyone frequent the SH1 between huntly and the dragway? specifically the big stretch where they used a cheesecutter to replace the double yellow line without any clearance (so you're buggered if you need to pass and if someone hits the barrier they'll head-on you anyway)

Long story short, on friday night I hit a bump on the highway and some of my fairings unclipped and came loose. the wind caught them and snapped bits off, one of which i am unable to find. I couldn't see it in the dark and didn't fancy walking in traffic at night. went by this morning going the other way but still no luck

I'm hoping that if someone notices a bit of red/white/blue plastic fairing about 300mm tall by 200mm wide with "forceV4" on it they could pick it up and PM me with pickup address and preferred beer

The picture shows what was left on the bike against my spare, so you'll know what to look for.

Luckily i have spares to replace most of it with, but the part pictured below that broke off took a bit of the lower fairing and a mounting with it, so i was hoping to find the loose bit and weld/glue it back together so i don't simply loose my spare bit too....

I'm hoping it isn't too scratched/squashed, but really all I need is the mount from the lower bit of fairing.

    Cheers

    -Andrew

EDIT: if it helps, it's one of the sections where there is 3 lanes. southbound was one lane, northbound was two lanes. cheesecutter seperating the two lanes with very little clearance and no grass. i remember it happened, heading south, passing through a minor intersection where the southbound was slightly wider to accommodate a median strip/turning lane. dunno if there was street to the left (east) or not, but was definitely one on the right (west). too dark to give any info on the surroundings.

i've had a check of all the intersections on my way back home north, but of course moving at high speed the plastic could've travelled 100m until it stopped in some grass - and note on that picture the fairing was on the right hand side of my bike, so could be on either side of the road

It looks like one of those nice personalised letters from LTSA with the sister of the dead chick who is looking for a date.

    How many points?

actually i only saw one cop the whole night, and that was back up in auckland. luckily for me, while she was sitting in a position to ping passing traffic and take chase, she didn't actually have the radar/laser gun out... gave me a funny look when my headlights suddenly dipped for a second though

but i wasn't doing stupid speeds; need to keep within 30 points of the posted speed limits. quite surprised the plastic broke off...

could be anywhere along there, no idea how far it would've travelled. it's at the huntly end of the cheesecutters though if that helps. not the expressway, just the 3 laned part with a cheesecutter in the double yellow line

Well, OP says he looked in one direction in the dark, but not extensively, however conducted a more thorough search on the other direction.

So, by knowing which side at least the OP searched thoroughly, we can narrow the search field down.

Well, we could if I could actually be arsed looking.

Then again, I do have 2 more days off work and nothing to do... and it would mean an excuse for a short ride... hmmm...

good point, - if you read between the lines, i did say i was going down to hamiltron from auckland. while i did get a good view of the southbound side from the northbound side, and had a good search of the northbound side, i have no idea of exactly where it broke off.
when you're covering over 30m per second and take a few second to realise bits have fallen off your bike, then come back the next day after a night on the piss and can't recall exactly where it was, nor recognise any landmarks as the ride down was in darkness, it leaves a pretty big area to be searching - and i'll tell you now that stopping and starting all the way up the barrier makes the trip take a fair bit longer

but if you guys could just keep your eyes peeled while you ride through there that's all i'm asking

hopefully the part will turn up soon enough.

EDIT: ok, maybe i didn't give any indication of my direction in this thread, but i gave it elsewhere thus my assuming i had said it. sorry bout that one

If you are talking about the Rangiriri section then I went through there yesterday going to the Chiefs game. All I can tell you is that the southbound roadway is clear of crap if that is any help.

yeah it's somewhere between meremere and huntly, no idea if it's north or south of rangiriri as i don't know the area very well at all.

    Ha! Take that Graham!

But seriously, I wasn't asking to be a tosser... I have a couple of days off, so I might just go for a wee cruise up and down that way a couple or three times.
