    Angry Red light runners

So I pull up to Tristram ave lights 10-15mins ago, filter to the front of the huge line of cars. Light goes green and normally I would take a quick glance and zoom off, well for some reason I took an extra look, not sure if I heard the guy or not but a black RX7(i think, maybe a mx6) came screaming through what would of been a solid red light at I guess 70-80 Kmh.

If I hadn't of hesitated for that split second to take that second look they would of been picking pieces of me out of this guys front bumber and off the road.

Just needed to get it off my chest, wish I had followed the damn bastard now. I think the worst part about people who run reds is they speed up to get through so if/when they do hit someone they are hitting them at one hell of a speed!!

Anyone else had close calls with red light runners like this?

Fortunately no, but hell, sometimes our instincts are freaky arent they. Couldnt think of much worse than this situation. Are these lights equipped with Road Control Camera's by any chance? If you know what time it happened, they may be able to retrieve the footage, would be good to get a warning issued to the bum

Perfection is not something you should ever attain, but something to always strive for. For if we actually achieve our idea of perfection, is it then any longer perfect?

Great to hear you took those seconds to save your life. Always a pleasure to hear when someone's survival skills count in a close shave.
(Am sure you meant his bumper, not bumber, btw)
Red light runners - see 'em all the time in Auckland. Keep those eyes peeled and ears open friend.

During the last 12 months I have noticed more red light runners in NP too. A green to me means "wait for a bit to see what wanker is ignoring their red light". Seems it's becoming more "acceptable"

If I were a cop I'd be loaded with drugs and surrounded by whores.

And probably up on gun charges...

    But yeah, Beware the lights.

If you pull away from the lights without pausing to look both ways in Auckland you are bound to get hit sooner or later.

Seems lately the amount of time after the red that people will risk running is increasing. It had dropped a bit after xmas when there were threats of tickets in the paper but it's getting worse again now that people realise nothing will happen to them.

I'm sorely tempted to buy a shitty old cage, get 3rd party and gas it as soon as the light goes green and ram the fuckers

I've seen it a few times in Auckland lately. Mostly in the city around Fanshaw street. I always look both ways before taking off at green lights.

I agree with discotex. It would be so easy to get taken out by Auckland red light runners.

Should be interesting to see how the new red light camera units affect this issue, the housings that they mount in are smoked/tinted so that you have no way of telling whether it's in there or not.

Yep its definetly got worse in the last few weeks.

The worst for me on my daily commute is the Titirangi Road / Gt North Road intersection when I'm heading to the city. The aholes turning right from Rata onto Gt North are the runners. Sometimes you have to wait up to 5 seconds on a green light before heading off.

Try driving up Khyber Pass after 4pm and there is a dude there with a video camera and a cash register, getting people driving in the bus lane.

Ever seen someone at an intersection with a video camera????
