Top stuff! Its a great feeling to have that little piece of temporary paper in your hand eh?

Don't be too quick to flick the little bike off, take your time before settling on a bigger bike!

Was the U turn in a parking lot or on a street? I ask because the Rode Code Study Manual for MC's says that a proper U Turn should be like parking a bike - backing up to the curb - then look both ways and only then go the opposite direction. Parking lot U Turns can be done non stop. Or at least that is the way I see it so someone correct me if I have it wrong.

For the U-Turn... I pulled to the left of the rd... then did a U-Turn... on the road... albeit very narrow (2 & a half carparks wide kinda thing) & continued on back the way we'd come.

& no I didnt 'park' my bike with the back tyre against the curb.... Stop next to the curb... then do a U-turn within the width of the rd (no feet down etc)

It would have been ALOT easier to 'park' then do the U-Turn, but thats not what was required.

'Parking' the bike before doing a U-turn in my opinion could be dangerous as you leave yourself more open to traffic from behind & it takes longer to do the manouvre

Did you stop or just slow down while looking both ways?

... I stopped... Foot down next to the curb, headchecked, indicated then carried out the U-turn... Its 'easier' to do a U-turn when 'rolling'... but thats not what they want to see... As the guy said to me before starting 'this is not a restricted test, it is alot more involved & everything is observed'

When I did my full test (somewhere up around Browns Bay, I think?) I got lost due to somewhat confusing muttered pre-ride instructions (no earpieces) and ended up riding around the suburb for about ten minutes trying to find the instructor.

He'd parked up at the side of the road somewhere. I think he was having a nap...

We tootled back to the 'testing centre' at the local soccer club and he smiled and gave me my licence.

I was shocked at how easy it was.

Sure is!!! & I get a Green Licence again!!!! YAY!!!
Now when I get asked for ID I have a greeeeeen one
oh & I've been pulled over a couple of times in my car whilst on learner & restricted bike licence, handed my licence over & the cops say 'does your passenger hold a full licence?' etc I dont need to point out that its got a 1 on it for full car & its the lower class 6L/6R n thats why it says 'learner/restricted'

Yeah im not in any rush to get rid of my baby... Shes a great bike & im not going to rush into getting a bigger bike 'just because I can'
Can take Fireball pillion legally now tho

Thanks for that. I wanna be sure when I do it. Usually when I do a U, I just slow down and turn but during the exam I'll stop along the curb like you did.

Now thats new to me as I have assumed the restricted test would be the same as the full. Guess I need to read the :slap: manual again.

Did you in fact find that the full was marked harder than the restricted (but was the same otherwise)?

    LOL!!!

I wouldnt have remembered the directions if they were given to me at the start... esp as it was a semi unfamilar area...

Did you get a feeling of ' I've screwed up n failed??'

That crossed my mind a couple of times but I think I was just over-analysing... each time he said to pull over I thought he was going to say 'ok you've failed head back to base'

Grats! I did my full license there too, you probably had the same guy as me. English, yeah?

Was heading around that way the same time as you on my way to Kaiaua. Popped into the carpark to give you a thumbs up. Sadly the rain came down and I had to delay my trip by a couple of hours.

No its not the same... There is alot more 'tested/observed' etc... Even the marking sheets are longer...

Its not harder per say, just different... more skills/parts of the test to do.

Sure enough... just as we left the testing place, it started raining heavier lol...

The testing guy was really nice & gave clear instructions/directions. Very straight forward.

Had an earpiece in connected to RT in jacket pocket. Wasnt uncomfortable at all.

Yay... Full Bike & Full car, no more yellow licence that I've had for 18months

Was quite nervous at the start mainly because I dont love riding in the rain, if it rains 'oh well'... but I'd rather ride in good weather n not get home wet/damp etc but sometimes you dont get to choose, esp in auckland lol

Bike is tucked in the garage now, back in work clothes, about to jump in the ute & head back to work (long lunch break )

Meadowlands AA they are good (& even if I'd failed I would've still said that!!!!)
    Congratulations.!

Any chance you can write a few words on the sequence of the test from start to finish?, Im about to take mine in a couple of weeks. Would be interesting to hear, how long it took, where you rode, hazard spotting test etc..
