Spokes??? Loose ones....

Hey I noticed that I had about 3 loose spokes so I just tightened them up a bit, but they are a little bit bent. Do I need to replace them, straighten them, or "she'll be right"???

No they were loose and slightly bent.

If it was mine id replace them because im fussy and have alot of hard landings to flat. They will probobly be fine my bros bike was missing a few spokes and never bothered it so bent will be sweet. Some times you have to buy as a set which sux.

Spray CRC or WD40 on each spoke and it will work its way into the nipple and stop it from sezzing up. Ive seen bikes that are 1 month old with sezzed spokes. Also keeps ya rims looking mint if u wipe of the excess.

Is your wheel still aligned?

I had a couple of bed spokes on my ol' gn. when it was on the big stand, you could see a slight wobble in the tyre while spinning the wheel.

I thought "nah, it'll be sweet" but found the tail wiggled while cornering at speed.... it wasn't a good feeling!

Straightened those buggers and spent a couple of hours one night straightening them up.

Hey Cheese, I had a spoke missing in my front rim, but it was gonna be a case of buying a whole new set which was $$$$$$, so i got a mate at a bike mechanics to make me a new spoke, which was way cheaper, so thats a possible remedy.
I landed flat a few time b4 i noticed the spoke was missing and now ive got a mean flat spot on the rim! and rims a soo F-in expensive that a just put up with a bit of a wobble at high speeds.

so where the hell an i going with this........... I woulf get them replaced b4 ya bend ya rim and need to replace that.

both of my crfs suffer from loose spokes, after every ride had to go round and check each one, usually just spun the wheel and taped each one with the adjuster and listened for a loose one.( usually get a ping losse ones go dull ping)

I was at the Auck MX champs at Harrisville the time before last and noticed that the mechanic for my mates son who was riding Yamaha for the Subway team made it a regular thing after every race to check a few spokes here and there. I gathered it must be fairly important so went out and bought a multi spoke spanner. I'm not quite sure how to exactly operate the bloody thing but i do whip around every now and then during maintenance and make sure they are all sort of a similar tightness.

I would have expected that checking your spokes is part of the after ride maintenance, guys. You wash the bike, clean the filter, lube the chain and any pivot points and check the suspension, wheels & tyres for damage. Repair as necessary.
If you have the bike on a stand spin the wheels while resting a screwdriver against the spokes, any loose or damaged spoke sounds very different to a tight one. If they are loose, tighten them gently.
You will end up with seriously stuffed rims if you don't look after them.
