Actually, it is a disruption in a magnetic field that triggers lights, not weight. This field is adjustable, so if your bike doesn't trip them, complain to the responsible authority to have it set to a more sensitive level.
And legally, I understand that if you sit through 2 cycles without getting your turn, you may 'proceed if the way is clear'. This would apply to a system where there are 3 or more light phases. How one gets on with a simple 2 way system I don't know....a 'reasonable time'?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
