I'll only do it if I see another bike coming up behind me to let him line up too.

This morning I was lane splitting behind a gu on a black VFR. He was really terrible and refused to go through gaps that he could of easily made it through so he sat by the driver's window staring at them and revving his engine as hard as he could (still pretty quiet..)

This just pissed everyone off and when he finally squeezed past them I was left with the aftermath when trailing behind him.. People blocking me off on purpose and all the rest of it..

    Bloody prick.

    2 reasons:

    2) for whatever reason I dont pull away (breakdown, stall etc..) its much safer to hold up a lane of traffic, than be stuck in the middle of 2 lanes of traffic with fuckwit cagers trying to get past on either side.

Screw cages. I own the road.

Biggest bug bear, the people who split up the middle and then pull infront of your lane. Just stay in the middle you cunt!

I disagree - even though this cutting across at the front of a line isn't something that I do. I figure if you have filtered to the front on an underpowered bike it is probably the for the safest to move in front of the lead car so that they know you are going first (other than not having gone lane-split of course) Sitting 3 across at 2 lanes just invites the cars on either side to have a go. And when it';s a smaller bike or a scooter, they usually do. Agree it's a pain when guys do it and aren't fast off the line but I'd rather see someone hold up the first car for 2 seconds than be caught in the middle overtaken both sides.

Same goes for scooters that ride in the gutter. Not a good idea as it invites cars to overtake even where real close. Sure I wish that they would run faster bikes but they are better to hold their lane than compromise safety (also why I hate riding a push bike in traffic).

    In the 50 or 70 K zones?

Over here, there is often a gap at the lights, where, for some reason, the vehicle in front will hang back a car length from the line. Can split and get 3-4 bikes at the front, sometimes.

I piss the cagers off and use the same amount of space up that they do... I mean, hey, just cos I got 2 wheels and max out at 2 metres long don't mean I can't USE the same amount of road....
It aint how fast ya get there, it's that ya get there at all...

fileteing to the front on an underpowered scooter is what gives bikes a bad name.

if u in front you nail it. Thanks for letting me though, i won't hold you up. Which negates (sp?) the issues of staying the split position of pulling in front of car.

i pull in front of car in case another filterer comes up behind me.

    what was the question?

i just HATE the way some Bikers automatically veer left or right as they take off ---- arogantly assuming that it's some dozy cager in the car they are next to [instead of moi ] ............. anticipating they'll do this i take the time, on take off, to pull away from them a little - giving them extra space; it's very gratifying to see the number i STILL beat away from the lights, even after penalising myself like that an me driving a little getz an all.............

yeah - i know i'm nasty .... but honestly, they shouldn't filter if they aren't quick enough to hit the throttle and get the hell out of the way of the traffic the minute the lights change .

.. they richly deserve any embarrassment they get from arrogantly assuming that SKILL has nothing to do with it methinks

In Auckland , the council have provided a special space for us at the front of many traffic lights. There's another line in front of the "Stop here" line. Very obliging of them.

oh yeah there shockers , i think the paint actually dried today .
anyhoo you need to watch the floor it away from the lights , apparently on another thread you can get copped for using unnessary speed , W T F that means .

Have you ever stalled your bike? I have managed it once when it mattered... Not a nice feeling! And hell yes, I was cringing on the inside, bashing myself getting the bike going ASAP.

One thing that can be both dangerous and annoying are when cars start rolling forward before the green light even comes on - meaning that you have to take off out of a "tunnel". Pulling in front of the car prevents this most of the time.

Jup, that certainly improves the deal. If the weather is good and I'm not in too much of a hurry I quite often commute along the summit road

I do this 9 times out of ten. Safest way to go. I very rarely hold anyone up though, unless I stall. I stalled a few times on my rg on shitty cold days, embarrassing. Pull to the right and let the cars go as I try to kick the bike back into life.
