Crashed bike... not starting (Magua's)

As you all know Magua crashed his bike... today we layed it down in my work van and got it home..

First thing we noticed a fair bit of petrol leaked out... meh
Cleaned that up

Not the bike dosent start... its sorta back firing a tad more of a pop really... he says it was like that before we got it home aswell...

I tried rolling it down the hill and starting but nothing... it tries a few pops here and there but no starting..

Battery is fine and theres petrol init...


Im thinking possibly dead spark plugs?

Any suggestions on what to do or try?

yeh wont be a major - just check the plugs, leads might be loose as well.
Once i heard a case of a broken kill switch????

Not the kill switch, the starter motor is turning over.

starter motors still turn over with an electrical/kill switch prob just wont get spark!

Don't be too quick to concentrate on the kill switch. I'd be interested in what happened when you had it on it's side - did you go far? A whole bunch of stuff could have happened then, oil going into cylinders, battery acid going into :eek and bitsacrap at the bottom of the tank going into the fuel system.

You probably should go through the typical range of diagnostics, obviously checking for a good spark on each plug is a given, but also drain the float chambers (if this is easy) check for other liquids etc. and check for for oil on your plugs.

After I crashed it I tried starting it and it wouldn't go, well it started but it sounded like it wasn't running on all 4 cylinders maybe? I was a different pitch to the engine than usual. It also would not stay started, it stalled the second I let go of the throttle. Yesterday we got it back home, it was on it's side on the way back for 10-15 minutes at which time it leaked coolant and petrol. Now it won't fire at all, not even while roll starting.

Checked the plugs, they seem to be fine, Can't drain the float chambers as I'd need new seals for the carbs.

There should be a wee screw on the bottom of each carb that you can undo to drain them without dismantling. Bottom of the carb bowl there'll be a metal tube pointing downwards & the screw will be into that.

Ok so what could have been damaged?
Given the damage you did to the crankcase cover i'd suggest you start looking in there. Id be betting you've damaged a ignition pickup

We did a test of spark and got stuff all from the plugs so I'll replace them to start with. What is an ignition pickup?
