    new brake pads mmmmm

woohoo! my new brake pads finally arrived in the post. EBC HH 'Kit' pads. the cost was $95NZ landed for the fronts & although they took 9 weeks to arrive it was still good value vs $258nzd. now to start saving for the braided lines & brembo master cyclinder & i can do the full upgrade, YAY!! 8-). I'm happy to leave the rear brakes alone as the gentle slowing of the rear wheel is really useful especially in the wet. oh well another $500 and that's all sorted, then it's on to saving for the suspension upgrades.

    yeah mate they're not cheap...
My last set of EBC hh std pads for the 750 were $80-ish(in NZ) but these new radial calipers have got split backing plates each side which means 4 pads per caliper... which means $128nz per side! 8-(

yes! another step closer, just scored some braided front lines from the states $106nzd landed, should arrive in January. so thats $201 so far for pads & lines, which is well under budget. that'll make it about $500 all up for the big brake upgrade. now just the brembo master cylinder to go, but that's the expensive bit($300) so will need to wait a couple months. after that will be the suspension upgrades & the bike will fully sorted. it's nice to have a bike that doesn't need go faster goodies & lets me concentrate on stopping & handling. hopefully i can get it all done for under $1500 which i think is good value in the end.

ebay of course my man 8-)
i been keeping my eyes peeled for 'buy it now' bargains for the bits I need and getting them when they pop up. They're generally about $79US + shipping but rarely get under that price and can go up to $90USD. these were galfer ss lines with clear coating & were $59 +ship/ins= $75$usd/$106nzd. if you don't mind waiting you can pick things up for a good discount...

I've run galfer superbike lines before and although they were deemed for 'race use only' by the manufacturer, they had a clear coating & the bike flew through a testing station wof. I'm not anticipating any problems... maybe Motu will be able to shed some light on this one?

If they're not stamped with the relevant DOT standard, then even if some testing station does pass them, they're not legal, meaning you can't just go anywhere that does WOFs and expect to pass.

I had some Aerotek braided lines on my VTR - bought them on TradeMe for $125. They were very good quality, but no DOT markings. So I had them taken off and replaced by some from Kerry at Motohaus. A little dearer, and (IMO) not quite as good-looking, but LTSA-approved, and no more hassles for me.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....
