The rider has been named in the NZ Herald:

"In another crash George Young, 49, from Glen Innes in Auckland, was killed when his motorcycle collided with a four-wheel-drive vehicle near Pukekohe at about 11am yesterday."

Dam, it's been too long since I've Nursed. I forgot that the most common cause of death is cardiac arrest (heart failure). What causes the heart failure is another matter (heart attack, blood loss, electicial shock, etc.). Still sad. My thoughts are with the families and friends.

    Unhappy

    Very sad and very sobering.

Life is too short aye. Just before I left fro my ride on Saturday morning my Aunty sent me an email about a very close friend of hers who had just died of cancer, it's not motorbike related death but, it did get me thinking and even though I didn't know her friend very, well I had a little cry. Just b/c loss/death is a sad thing - obvious I know but...yeah.
My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

Yup, make the most of everyday, live your dreams... let the people who count know they do!! You never know when one of the people you really love can be taken from you!

    Very sobering Cathy!

Life. A sexually-transmitted terminal condition. Suck it in and enjoy every precious second of it. It will be over all too quickly.

Do we know if they are any kbers?

To rest be safe on these roads this xmas, this time of year, alot of cage drives start turning the brains off. and are worse then normal they are holiday mode. Espically in busy tourist areas, around the kopu area etc.

    Be safe

Personal i don't do any long distance riding from pretty much 15-12 untol 15-01 due to to many close calls over this time frame by people on holiday.

Its always sad when someone dies before their time. My thoughts also go out to the family and friends of these two riders.

Not to take anything away from them, I'm so impressed by this tread - this site. That KBers look out for one another is cool.
Yesterday I took a ride to Taupo; my 2nd and longest ride so far (thanks Twinle). My plan was to use it as a pre run to riding to Ahipara for Christmas weekend. But now?...hmmm...Drive? Would I be one of those 'lights on but no-ones home' cage drivers? Perhaps not I say. I hope the rider in me would not let the driver in me leave the lights on when I'm not home.

    RIP

well it wasn't my friend after all so i heaved a really big sigh of relief. Unfortunately it's someone else's mate/brother/father/cousin/son/uncle/grandfather. I know there'll be some sad people out there at the moment. Please ride safely people, life can change forever in a split second.

Yeah - wherever they are, my thoughts are out there with the friends and family of both parties involved in the accident. Guys'n'gals - as they say on Hill Street Blues - "Let's be careful out there".

Not to be morbid or anything, but I thought it would be cool if we had a Honor Board on which we could put our biker mates who have pasted away. On this we may honor them by remembering them as they lived, born ride.
