    Which bike to buy?

    Hey guys, expert help is needed!
    Im getting out of road racing as Im gonna be student again so need to save pingas but still need "that" rush. Also it must be said that all the ex MXers coming into road racing and doing very well quickly has opened my mind a little to chook chasers. I can save coin and learn skills while im skint and come back to my passion of circuit riding when Im rich. I will also meet heaps more people as its a more social scene.

    Im selling the road bike, thats a hard thing to type. Ive committed to getting a dirt bike though by buying a helmet and boots! question is, what to get?

    Budget: as little as possible, naturally. maybe 2-3k
    usage: backyard mx track riding, trail riding, beach riding, mucking round at the mx track occasionally (not racing).

    I wanna wheely, do big skids and hoon around and have fun. Obviously I need power.
    smokers are simple engines and cheep to rebuild.

    Im thinking CR125 (cheap to buy) or RM125 (luv suzi's). But will it be powerful enough, remembering that I like going faaast and also dont mind the bars shaking and back wheel moving around.

    KX500 or WR500 sounds real good, heaps of grunt, great for skid control and unintentional wheelies but a bitch to kick over?? too much power?

    250 2T, probabley out of my price bracket.

    250/450 4T, wouldnt touch used bikes with 10 foot barge pole

    What bike would be best suited?????

    Id say go with a 125, its light has enough power will give you all the skills you will ever need you can wheeli till you run out of gas with the correct balance point and is cheep to fix and maintain.

    Look on trade me you will notice the honda CR125s hold their value a lil bit more then most. Ive found the honda CR125s to have good mid to top end power and the YZ125s to have more bottom to mid power and lack top end. (Could be wrong but that my experiance) Havnt ridden others our group has had 6 CR125s none with major problems.

    Mate recently picked up a 2001 CR125 in resonalble condition for $2500 i wouldnt bother with anything older then that.

    All we did to his bike was file the clutch basket and runs mint and has good power range.

    If you can pick one up with after market front pipe they do make a differance ive found procircuit to be very good.

    if you were to get an older cr125, dont go older than 1999/ the 98 was a shitpig experiment in the alloy frame, and 97 and older is just tooo old

    you will learn to ride better on a 125 for sure, you should be able to pick up a good early 01-03's for around that $3000, the honda is the slowest of the japanese ones, and the 5 speed gearbox was not good, the RM and the YZ prob the quickist, adn the KX ion the middle somewhere, all the japenese bikes are easy to get parts for, and none of them had any major problems to look out for,

    250 2t is another option, you should get a 99-02 around that sort of money, again all the japense ones are a good option, the HOnda and KX are a bit more aggresive, and i would stay away from 01 RM250's

    thanks heaps for the input and due to your guys input I have been looking at 125's. I checked out a 2000 YZ125 but has looked neglected from a young, new rider but I have stumbled accross a solid CR125 that the owner is keen cash up. a fun rip up the road had be sold, this is gonna be FUN!!! cant wait to give it a good run!!
