    Question Biker-friendly awards

While out enjoying the sights and smells of the Wairarapa yesterday I thought it would be nice to have a register/token of achievement/award for biker-friendly purveyors of fine food, beverages and accommodation.

This thought was had shortly after the consumption of the usually high standard of coffee and kai laid on by the friendly team at Martinborough's Flying Fish cafe. I thought something along the lines of "Wouldn't it be nice to give these dudes a KiwiBiker award for services to the enjoyment of motorcycling?"

There are a bunch of other places I would also recommend highly for awards. Others must have had similar experiences -- not just at the "Fish" but elsewhere??

However awards schemes need credibility. Maybe the standard for credibility would be say "10 big ticks" from KiwiBikers?

    Yes??

You're just angling for free coffee.

    You're right about needing credibility.

How about it being a once-per-year thing. There could be different categories. Best Eatery, Best road, Best Service from a Bike Shop, KBer of the Year, etc, etc.

Then everyone could nominate whoever for each category. Open it the the vote and then send/hand out the awards.

    Thumbs up Great!

Great idea! - myself and the Mrs had a similar idea a couple of months ago since we stop at so many different places on our travels. I'm always commenting about the coffee. I like a good brew but I find quite often people burn the beans (I suspect a lot of people making the coffee simply haven't had the training in using the espresso). I was a Chef in a career gone by so if any half decent food is put in front of me I just enjoy it – however saying that, I find myself wanting to give some constructive criticism on occasions (I never do in case the cook takes it the wrong way, and well, they probably would).

Would the South Isalnd be involved
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

    Excellent idea, Hitcher.

I think a forum on here would be the go, so that it's an on-going thing, rather than just an annual occurence. That way, we don't have to wait to the end of the year to find out where good places to visit are located.

If we're going to do this right, we need some criteria - things like bike-friendly parking, somewhere to put your gear (helmets etc.) while using the facilities, standard of whatever service it is they provide, etc.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....
