Oil for a Rekluse auto clutch?

    Hi

I just put a rekluse autoclutch in my wr450. Apparently rekluse recommend using 15w-40 diesel engine oil in the motor/trans.

any oil gurus out there care to comment or recommend a specific brand/type of diesel engine oil?

Is this because the oil would run hotter with the rekluse than without?

    cheers

    Rekluse pro

    Hi
I ran a wr450f 07 for nearly a year with motul 10/40 with no problems. The only problem I did have was that I had to get a really thick gasket made up as sometimes it would scrape the clutch cover, and that was doing a 12 hour race as well as 6000 km of off road miles.

It was the pro version though.

Yes it did but I had to get a thicker one, But you only noticed it on big hill climbs when the bike was in 2nd or 3rd and you ease off the throttle to keep traction. After I got the new gasket it was ok. What year bike is it going in??

06 - last of the steel frames
put it in on Saturday and spent 4hrs riding tight mountain bike tracks on Sunday - works a treat but seems to get a bit grabby when it gets really really hot - is fine again after a cool off.

How many ball bearings are you running? Also which springs have you put in? The clutches are awesome, I have my new ride arriving on the 28th of this month (christini awd crf250x) with the pro clutch and hand brake override.

Have you got the brake kit? As I found it really hard to ride without it especially if you fail to make a climb and end up sliding backwards with your front wheel locked up and unable to get to your foot brake.

If memory serves me, the amount of ball bearing dictates how hard the clutch engages and the springs dictate at what rpm the clutch starts to engage. I didnt run mine with a full set of bearings.

presently I'm all balls and no brains . Did taking 3 balls out make a noticeable difference? I have the two springs installed that gives the medium speed engagement which is fine until it gets really hot then it just drags a little at idle.

your new bike sounds a long way past awesome. You'll have to post some photos when you get it.

I used the 'Caltex Delo 400' when i was running the Rekluse clutch. Did about 150hrs in 2 YZ250F's with no problems.

I don't run a Rekluse clutch, of course -- but Delo 400 15w40 (a diesel oil) is the oil my ageing XR250 motor responds best to. Cheap, too! The Warehouse.

Yeah taking the 3 balls out did make a difference it made the clutch engagement a little less fierce. This could be your problem you could try it with less ball bearings, Believe it or not I run it without any springs so the engagement was just off idle.

I cant understand why you are getting problems I would think putting a thicker oil in might cause the problem you are having. I think its a problem with the setup of the clutch i.e the bearings. Also check the gap with the special tool that came with the kit.

Also I have included a pic of what the awd will look like the only difference is that I have 3 coming (Starting a business running bike tours finally and selling the kits) Also I have fmf systems on all and my own personal bike has the clutch with the brake override. I will post new pics as soon as they arrive.

If I can be of anymore help pm me or just post here.

I have used Rekluse clutches on 2 bikes so far -both KTMs and only ever used same oils as before clutches . Shell VSX 4 stroke synthetic or similar with no worries. The greatest adjustment can be done with swapping titanium balls with the steel ones for faster engagement I have found.

pulled off the clutch cover on Sat and my clutch is touching the cover as well. I put the original gasket back on as well as the thick one - hopefully that will fix it.

I put the harder spring combo in to raise the engagement speed slightly and it seems to be ideal - very happy.

I ran caltex delo 400 in my YZF with autoclutch. In fact I run delo 400 in all my bikes. Auto clutches are magic.
