I dont remember Tommys being zookie but then again you left in 78, I was 10... yet 7yrs later nothing had changed at Whitings... I love it.

TWO SHOPS - one run by each partner ! Now that's a possibility as I did not venture Riccarton way in those days looking at bikes until Norjos Colombo St moved :-) I only dealt with Alan on bike sales.

Scan of first service on 750 (CSR750 twin Model) below. S-maps show 834 as down by where Mainstreet is. It may well have been a 750 Spectre (all gold and black) the 750 & 1000 looked the same.

I'll tell you one thing - when you are 17 and have been working paper rounds etc and saving since you were 12 - you remember where you got your first new bike (the Z440) and the brand new 750 16 months or so later.

Bought a few bikes from Paul Walton who owned Pacific Motorcycles in New Brighton.He didnt get into importing Jap bikes until he moved to Linwood.
Easterbrooks were in Papanui by the railway station. And how long has Trev Pierce been going now?

Tommys Suzuki started somewhere first I think as he got that big shop built for him while he was still in his old shop.
Could be wrong as I was just about to start riding motor bikes.
Then along can Bob and the devoice and he had to down grade again after he became Tommys Yamaha.

Are you real sure Jacks moved as the owner of Jack had money in Nojo's as well I think and Ian worked a log side Allan on Colombo St under the banner of Norjo's.
It's starting to come back to me now, ferk must be getting old or something.
And Norjo's sold Yamaha's as well because I bought a brand new XJ750 Seca of then ($5500) from then in Riccarton in 1981.

Atlantic Motorcycles was another one, one of the ex sales guys from Eric the Hoods, just around the corner in St Asaph St, although as far as bike shops go they weren't around very long

Bought my BMW R75/7 from them and my Brother bought a 600 Pantah

They use to be down Blenheim Rd near the stock yards and (now) old bridge as well and then I think they went their and then to Colombo St.
Then Riccarton Rd back to Blenheim Rd to a new building, now a hire place.
Then to where they are now.

Never went into this Colombo St store ever that's why the memory banks can't even picture where it was.
From the corner of Blenheim Rd & Clarence St they went out to Sockburn (Between the bridge & the entrance to Wigram).

Southside or Monarch were one of the big pushers of that one-off Sydenham street race back in the 80s, one of the main straights went right past their door (albeit on the opposite side of the island on Moorehouse Ave)

Paul was importing when the shop was at 23 Beresford St New Brighton, then went to 5 Buckleys Rd Linwood, then onto where Casbolts are now.

Trevor Pierce started out in a warehouse building on Tuam St (think that was it) on the Linwood side of Fitzgerald Ave sometime in the early 90s (Applied for a job there)

I was doing a paper run to pay for my gear & for the running costs of the YZ80 (the oldman brought it off Tommy (St Asaph St store for $995)).

That's the name I was trying to think of, that was that bloody wee boutique type shop on St Asaph about half way between Manchester & Colombo Brick building that became a Golf outfitters and I think is now a Bridal Boutique.

yeah they have, 6 MG including Rockys and bout 7 Aprila... but thats still not enough to survive on, the big hurt is the waranti work where MG pay a lesser per hour rate than they pay there mechs, Itialy is hard to deal with and parts if they arive are taking months.

Neither Southside or Monarch appear in the programme which would be a bit strange if they were behind it, only the motorcle shops mentioned below get a thanks for their support
