zxr250a fork oil - how much?

    Greetings,

I can't find anywhere in the service manual how much fluid to put into the front forks, all they say is put the special kawa tool in and when it sucks out oil, you have too much.

A mate of mine and i changed the fork seals and using an eyecrometer we figured that the fluid level was about right, we ended up putting about 320ml in both sides, they feel perfectly even, same weight etc. I have them back on the bike and it feels very good under braking etc...

Anyone know how much the really should have?

Why didnt you measure it before you tipped it out?
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

Measuring the volume is a bitch to get right.

The best way to do it is to know what level (in mm below the edge of the fully compressed fork) is correct, then just drain both forks, top them up and then siphon out oil until both sides are at the correct level.

However, if it feels right it's probably not too bad

we replaced the seals because they had perished and were leaking so i couldn't measure how much to put in

The manual talked about a level point about 85mm from the top of the shaft with the spring out, i am guessing the 85mm is for displacement when you put the spring back in and its compressed.

Ah well i guess the speed tech guys will be able to give me a fair idea of how much is good and bad.

Well, if the manual (and I don't know where you found one in english for the zxr250a!) says 85 mm from the top with the spring out - then it's quite simply 85 mm from the top (fully collapsed fork). You can suck it out with a syringe and a piece of plastic hosing...

yeah, but then i am not 100% sure i have the zxr250a manual :s it doesn't mention in the manual anywhere about 250(a) or the year this manual works for and there are some inconsistencies. The site i downloaded the manual from said zxr250a but it also had allot of advertising on the page so you never know...

I think that its right (how different can the shocks be between a & c??) but i am known to be particularly over-paranoid about anything to do with shocks and brakes

    Hey mate,

Its the wrong manual, its for a c model, found it on the net but i could provide a download for you if you need it.

Although its for the wrong model, its got some good info in it for general stuff.

Make sure you pump the fork(5 times) and then the internals(10 times) once filled but before you take the measurement.
