    Vinning a bike??

hey guys, not sure where to put this, but i decided here might be a good place...

anyway, shoot me if this has been asked before i'm not good at finding site content.. *doh*... buuuut

how much would it cost to get something vinned??

in particular, something like this bike here:

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=149049238

I told the guy i'd ring him back to arrange a viewing at some point after i did some thinking. or to say thanks but no thanks.

any help? the bike looks quite good from what i see, just the issue of the vinning... i don't know a thing about it.

Check the LTSA & VTNZ sites. The Truth is out there!

I vinned mine 3yrs ago; pretty straight-forward. Think it cost @$150-ish.

Chinese knock off, dont touch it with a pole, it's unregisterable.

Check VERY VERY carefuly the VTNZ site.

There is alot on info on this site.. if you can find it. Threads by Hitcher or Xion.
Here is some stuff... go and look for more.
    1.2. In all other cases:
    • The vehicle must have the original identifi er affi xed, and
    • The vehicle owner must provide:
    a) a statement from the New Zealand Police confi rming that the vehicle is not a vehicle of interest
    (Reference material 35), and
    b) satisfactory evidence that the vehicle has been previously registered in New Zealand, such as:
    i. photographs of the complete vehicle
ii. receipts for insurance, repairs, periodic in-service inspections (WoFs), etc
iii. manufacturers’, importers’ or dealers’ records that show the vehicle was originally imported
    or manufactured in New Zealand
iv. written anecdotal vehicle history from previous owners. This must be considered with
caution; a statement that someone recognises the vehicle is not sufficient.

Run. Run very fast. Do not pass go. Do not sign anything.

It's unregisterable. The reason it's not vinned is becauae it can't be (well, it probably *can* if you care to spend the money. Allocate $10000 or $20000 to satrt with).

The info on the LTNZ site refers to revinning a bike that was once registered in NZ but smeone let it lapse. This is a completely different deal.

If you find a pre 1991 bike that was once registered but it lapsed and it needs to be vinned again, that's not too big an issue. But allow AT LEAST $500. This is not that. Don't do it.

EDIT: It's not a Honda. It's a chinese knockoff, from some company that bought a bunch of obsolete Honda tooling.

yeah, though I don't think I'd reach the price they're getting at before their auctions close (i thik i've seen the 145 you're talking about too)

Honda passed in last time , didn't make reserve (reserve was $850, it's at $500 I think. It was offered at $850 on a buy now)

In Auckland too I think, that's important on a cheap bike, transport can add another $300 or $400 to the cost

and yeah, i'm only looking for bikes in auckland I can't get to anywhere else to collect them (hence why i'm struggling.. well one reason anyway).. even to places like manukau is hard to get to for me >.<
