Thanks for posting the links. My dad used to ride at Kilbirnie - he rode a bike built by Len Southward. Harley frame with an Indian v twin motor, Southward took off the rear cylinder, covered the hole and mounted the magneto there.

When I got my JAP to ride at Te Marua, Mum was horrified and Dad said he wasn't pleased, but I think he was secretly delighted.
