    Talking Bye bye 250 and cruisers...

    As much as I love the GN250 it's time we parted company.

    Now the hard part is going to be choosing the next bike. I've done a little research and looking around and at this stage I am tossing up between the GSF600 Bandit and the Honda Hornet.

    I've seen a 96 Bandit for about 5K but am yet to do a full look over, also seen a stunning 99 model for 8K but that is a little more than I'd like to pay. Most of the Hornet's I've seen are the CB900's and I'm weary of being bitten by it seeing as I'm still fairly new to riding.

    Now I don't have a great mechanical mind but I have managed to do some routine maintenance and fixes to the GN. That said any opinions or concerns let me know, I've had great advice in the past from so many here I know I'll get the same.

    Also, if anyone knows someone that would like a well looked after GN250, give me a holler too (down side is that is a 06 Chinese model)

    I stepped up from a CBR250 to a CBR600, and I'm more than happy with that. Forgiving bike (or so I'm told) thats sporty enough too be a sports bike and comfortable enough to go on a decent trip, with enough poke to mount up as many speeding tickets as you like. Picked mine up for 7k from a bike shop for a 2000 model.

    What sort of age and money are you looking at?

    Hiya HRT,

    I'm looking for something <15 years and <7K. Although I thought I'd always stay with cruisers looks like naked sports will be next for me. Just checked out the CBR you talked about. Not bad but too much fairing for the style I'm after.

    Well excited about the whole ordeal tho, am going to do DD course then get full licence - any tips on that would be great too

    Congrats! If you have a steady throttle hand and not subject to the red mist, CB900s are quite friendly bikes to ride! They have linear power delivery, great handling and are patient enough to wait for you to sort yourself out and do what you want them to!

    They are also great value for money and even stock are great machines! I'm a tad biased - but making the transition from my chew fiddies wasn't a problem with such a great bike to get onto!

    I'm sure you will make an inspired choice no matter what bike you get next anyway! Happy hunting!

    Hear hear! I did the same, although the CBR 600 was the F1 jelly-mould (cheap as chips, but getting a bit elderly now). A sensible step up, because a 600 will do everything you want it to, within reason.

    Have you had a go on an SV650 or 1000? they are cheap as and a hell of alot of fun to ride! Similar riding position to the hornets I believe

    go the bandit.

    Theres an awesome deal on trademe. 2000, low mileage, 5k. its a beautiful bike and if I had the room would buy myself.

    Cheers guys,

    Just had a look at the SV650, it was one I had looked into earlier but the models that seem to be available are a little too pricey for me at the moment.

    Had a looksee at the trademe add, it's already on my watchlist. The down side with that for me is I know essentially very little about the mechanical side of it all it would be easy for me to get caught out. I have a mate back home in Invercargill that I might get to have a look at one there and if there is one in CHCH I may well ask if anyone from KB could come check it out with me.

    Down side is that I'm still on restricted (till I do advanced then full test) so cant test ride anything...legally!

    You have gotta go hornet, I went from a CBR250R to a ZXR750. The 900's arnt to be feared. All bikes treat you how you treat them ,Eg: The bike i owned prior to my 900 hornet was a zx6rr 2005. Lil ol 600 was far more crazy and less licence friendly than the 900. In fact the 900 in my opinion would be a safer second bike than the majority of ss 600's but again i revert to my previous comment All bikes treat you how you treat them.

    In conclusion i think you should buy my bike for $7700...... ill see you on saturday, pm me for my address. PROBLEM SOLVED, END OF THREAD.

    Harry ya Bastard...

    I have a hornet half lined up at the moment, it seems to be leading the way from the Bandits. As far as getting your 900, you're a little far away
