    How to keep feet dry.

My experience is that even the most expensive waterproof boots fail after a given period of time being dragged on the ground - but there is an easy way to stay reasonably comfortable if you have to do some miles.

Put your sock on, then put a thin plastic bag over the top of it before das boot. Thinnest Sandwich-type bag will do the trick.

Will surprise how well it works.

    Nice one guvna

While were on foot preservation..........a good way to break in a new pair of boots/shoes without getting blisters is to wear two pairs of socks that way the 2nd set of socks rub against the other & not your feet
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded

Gaerne "aqua tek" boots - never had wet feet with them before.

Tuck jeans inside them - waterproof overpants over the top.

Christchurch to auckland - raining 80% of the time and arrived in auckland with dry feet.

I wear my army issued combat boot - they're 100% waterproof, until I'm standing in shin-high puddles. Plastic bags are OK, but you will get sweaty. $80 will get you a decent pair of gators (or join the army and get great gor-tex ones for free) which will work much better than plastic bags.

I've done some very wet rides and my Oxtar WP explorer boots, treated with Gaerne waterproof polish have kept my feet dry.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

When I was a poor university student I would wear gumboots and a nylon rainsuit.

No water ever got in ... but no water ever got out either.

    Heh. Not quite.

There was no way for any moisture to get out, so it was like riding in a luke-warm sauna.

What I understand is that you need to treat your boots with a good leather waterproofer quite frequently and then you will 'pretty much' stay dry.

See attached pics : my 9 year old Sidi's (a tad dirty after the forgotten highway) and my new Alpinstars. The boots I had previous to the Sidi's were cheap & nasty & not waterproof.

The Sidi's cost about $370 when I got then but were totally reliable - I still where them occasionally. Have been wet right through 2 sets of riding gear but no wet feet. Nine years later and the Alpinestars were not much dearer and perform just as well.

My tip would be to not buy a pair that zips right down to the sole - gives a bigger area for water to find it's way in. Big flaps that velcro over the zip are the go. The Sidi's don't even have a zip - only one opening in the boots and ya leg is blocking that off...
