How bright are the twin street fighter lights?

Hi all

I have a 900 Hornet with an awesome front headlight as described here:

"A large multi-reflector headlight with a twin-filament H4 low/high beam provides superb roadway illumination".

Anyway, the headlight was recently damaged and I was wondering whether to replace it with a set of twin street fighter styled headlights. There are a few brands out there:

Safety first though... has anyone wired some of these street fighter lights up and used them at night? Any good or rubbish?

Was looking at some of these for my vtr, so i'll be interested to see what people have to say about them.

They aint cheap, but they look bloody good.

I put some headlight protector on mine - I broke a light on my previous bike and it was a stupid price to replace.

GiJoe1313's 250 Hornet has a twin headlight set-up. He puts up with it, but even his ancient 1980s RZ250 lights up the road better. My big 8" round headlight puts him in the shadow easily.

I like the clean aesthetics of a single big lamp, but go for it if you like the look. Bear in mind that not only are two small ones going at once not as good as a single big one, but many of the streetfighter set-ups only have one going at once -- one for highbeam, one for lowbeam. It's all tied into the original roots of the streetfighter thing, cheaply replacing the fairing with lights with two cheap small lights (one lowbeam, one highbeam), integrated low/highbeam being expensive.

the dominator twin headlight kits have the best rep, but it's down to personal choice I guess.

This is one on TM I was thinking of - I've seen in around CHCH a couple of times. Auction earlier this year but check if he has any current listings and ask a question re the Hornet.

There's a fair few XJRs around the world with twins fitted, and the general concensus is...
Twin Bates are far better than Dominators, but the original Yamaha 8" single beats them both for illumination.

They have to be done right, so many people mount them wrong and they look like crap then.

cbr250rr/vfr nc30 etc little round headlights are pretty good, and they're just 4" lights, though not as small as the streetfighter ones.

I've had numerous problems involved with my streetfighter lights, however, after some detective work all has been solved. The singles throw out better light, but saying that - I've ridden many tens of thousands of kms in the dark with the set up I have on the little ol'hornet.

They do look good though! Would I put them on my Big Ol'Hornet? Nope! Ask me again when I get the next Hornet and can start to fiddle around with it though
