Another new bike for me question

sorry guys but another "what bike for me?" thread. Another getting back into riding off road question.

What am I getting with a newer bike than an old thumper? Less Weight? Technology - this interests me as all I have really heard from guys riding off road is how they have to rebuild their engines every 200? hrs.

Were the old ones as good as they were or we weren't so worried back then?

If I had no interest in ripping up the tracks or jumping etc but wanted to roar around a few of the laid back trail rides & forestry tracks would a old xr or similsr do?
As my riding time would be not that often I would be realistically wanting to spend the least amount as possible & if the chinese bikes were more reliable I'd be looking at one of those so not interested in a new Jap bike.

Interested to hear your thoughts about the new bikes though

If your wanting 4 stroke, the bonus of getting new/near new is the history of the bike. New high comp 4 strokes are mint and will keep going providing the maintainence has been done regularly. With an older bike I guess there is more chance of multiple owners and less chance of being well looked after. I guess this goes without saying.

Buy my 2 smoke Near new and fast as fook

If you've got the cash to buy new go ahead but near new imo is just as good. Might find a mint 06/07/08 with all teh goodies on it

mate rides an old xr400. just as fast as most, hardly ever has to touch it, still has a big grin at the end of the day.................

do you drive a nice new car? or an old beat up dungger? the dungger still gets you where you need to go, but a new car just purrs along the road.

my 2c, but buy an old xr. if you are worried about the coin.

Good advice. XR's are mint as indeed. Will go forever

cheers guys. yeah I do own a nice car (for a people mover) but that is because I need it everyday. The dirt bike doesn't need to be flash cos I'm geting a new KlR650 soon & that will be the bling bike.
