    Yep, i have ridden V-twins before, the chain snapped at a point where the torque was not at its peak. the engine felt like it had more torque at 5-7000rpm than 9-11000rpm, and im sure a dyno chart would look similar (for instance a ducati 749R peak torque arrives at 8000rpm with a redline of 11000rpm.... I didnt snap the throttle on either (was worried about breaking traction or pulling a wheelie) and used a smooth even increase of throttle (like on any big bike unless you want to crash)

    Ohh for fuck sake you lot no need for all this shite.

    Old addage (slightly modified)

    Motorbikes are tools for learning.
    Occasionally the tools get bent
    . If it does we just straighten it out
    And carry on riding.

    Chris Im sure SM took the same attude as I did when ya borrowed Mella Yella -if Ya break it we will fix it --No hassle mate

    In-fucking-credible. Won't ride the 'brand new' '600 for reasons unknown, so you go and break someone elses bike.

    TS - My mistake, didn't read your post accurately obviously, missed the part on the chain snapping. Anyway, in no way was it an attack on you, just curiousity as at that stage I thought it was an engine failure. But even with that train of thought (mistaken) I wasn't slamming you.

    Hope it all works out for the best, your riding future and SM's bike.

    I dont think it was anything to do with the way TS was riding it.
    To get the front in the air on my TLR I Take it to about 4000rpm back off and nail it and havent had my chain snap.
    Just one of those things, I had the chain go on my 92gsxr1100, It did a bit of damage, smashed the Sprocket casing but luckily never busted the main casing.
    Shit happens

    Call me a tight arse, but there are basic rudes I follow when it comes to lending:

    1. Don't lend anything that you will sorely miss.
    2. Don't lend more than you can affort to loose.
    3. Don't lend anything you want back in a hurry.
    One piece of advise given to me by a top horse rider, back in the days that I rode in Hunts:
    Never, ever loan your best horse to anyone, no matter how good a rider they are supposed to be. Accidents happen, even if they are not the rider's fault. Sure, if you have more than one and the horse that you lend is not you main ride, then cool. But before you lend the horse think on these: Would you be happy to miss the Hunt season if something was to happen to your horse? How would this affect your relationship with the rider that borrowed your horse?

    OK, it's f*cken horses, but I feel the same applies to your best/or only bike. I cann't afford to loose "Roxanne" and I would hate to loose a friend, so I would be very hesitant to lone her.

    No worries mate didnt think you were in the first place

    What has been interesting is seeing the different view points of people on the site towards me..... Considering i am talked about in most threads with my riding style and i have over 2100 posts some people dont even know me I try to be nice to everyone on this site (even if i dont have the same viewpoint) but obviously im not nice enough....

    Anyway, whatever KB member i meet on a KB ride, i will come over and say gidday and have a yarn. I havnt met a KB memeber that i havnt got on with. I believe KB is a place where everyone can come and have a good chat, learn and share experiences and have a good laugh and a bit of debate.... People need to get less wound up and not take things at face value, look into the post and look at the different view points that it can be taken from, dont criticise but ask if they can explain their viewpoint further, then offer advice... If someone is an idiot on the road, offer them the negative effects it can have, not tell them that they are a complete wanker blah blah blah...

    I dont think i will ever stop learning about riding and meeting awesome people with KB so lets keep it going aye ?

    So, er, wot's all the fuss about then?

    I suppose today we all learned that:

    - it's a good idea to keep a close eye on the condition of your chain;

    - don't ride anything you can't afford to fix or replace;

    - Two Smoker is a big girl's blouse.
    kiwibiker is full of love, an disrespect.
