Well I would say R6 because they are so reliable and a real good bike and I Luv Yamahas. Gixer is a bit cheaper but still a good bike. I had a 2000 R6 and it was awesome.

I rode the k5/6 gixxer and didnt like the ergos. Loved the k7-found it so comfortable for me. Pricewise the k7 gixxer might be heading into your bracket. I toured mine, used it on the track and on road scratching-just great, and no hint of a problem!
From what I have read, the Yammies are more focussed, and need to be revved to get the performance out of them.

you might be talking about k4-k5

Just ride one of each and pick which suits you the most, all fairly simlar in hp, handling, each has there own querks.

Kinda funny how everyone is telling you to buy whatever they have!

Take both for a good ride and decided for yourself. Im sure they are both good bikes are you would be happy with whatever one you get.

And yet the k15 and k1000 consequently coincided with Cagiva's release of the k646 and caused catastrophic confusion.

General consensus from bike journos is that the R6 is a bit more track focussed while the GSX-R is a better all-rounder (and also a lot more comfortable).
In the end there's not a lot of difference in performance between the 600s (they're all brilliant), so you're pretty safe buying based on whichever one turns you on.
