Problem is just that it's very hard to spot - at least in the shadows and especially if you're riding through an area with changing lighting conditions.
Going uphill it's nasty - but going downhill not seeing a patch of grit is downright deadly.
Can imagine it would have been a cold treat! Will get worse when the southerly comes through properly
