    Robb Report "MotorCycling":

The Goldwing was concieved as a muscle or performance bike, in 1975 the GL1000 had impressive accelleration and braking, but with a smooth ride punters used it for long distance riding, in 1980 honda bowed to pressure and released the GL1100 'Interstate'.

One has to wonder where they get their info from. The GL1000 was released in 1974 and "a luxury machine aimed at the touring market" according to Roy Bacon's HONDA-The Eary classic Motocycles. The term "Muscle Bike" did not appear till much much later.

I just put WINJA on my ignore list. Most of what he writes seems bollocks, so don't think I'm missing much...

The original 'wing was a pretty std bike. Nothing like the munt laden barge we see today... I kinda liked them except corners were a bit of a challange for them... Well you might laugh but I damn near bought a GL1000 in the late 70's...

It had uprated suspenders, Laverda jota (adjustable) bars, rear sets, a hot 'zorst and a cafe racer screen. It looked wicked and i just loved the idea of a cafe racer gold wing...

It was red... Wonder wot happened to it?

    True.
Almost without exception, every part I've ordered has been "out of stock, available ex-Japan, 3 weeks." Even very common stuff. Another gripe - one time I checked availability of a part from Australia, and almost the same story, except it was 2 weeks delivery, and the price was $AU149 (incl. GST) compared with $NZ265.
Must be a different Honda that supplies Australia and NZ....
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or maybe not...

A man with Honda issues I'd say.
Slow - LMAO. I've heard plenty of people constructively say why they prefer say a Busa over a Bird, but slow!!?? Give me a break. It was the fastest in the world in it's day (1999-00). But you're missing the point, that's not what the Bird is about. Mile munching, practical with smooth & manageable power. Read the independent reviews they say it all (this months Kiwi Biker for example).

Take your blinkers off dude. The Gixxer thou (a brilliant bike) is faster than a Bird as is the Busa, R1, ZX 10 and a few others - but you try taking these bikes out two up for hundreds of K's along with your overnight or weeks gear and tell me whose arse is still in one piece at the end.

I’ll argue all day with you about a ZZR1100 or 1200 beating today’s Bird. Your token example of a single head to head accounts for nothing. I’ve been touring on several occasions with mates that own ZZR’s (excellent machines) across Europe and they openly admit that the Bird is faster and more responsive. But again, balls out speed is not what the Bird is about. It handles like a dream either on the open road swallowing up long sweeping corners and is just as happy and as easy to manage around town (try that on a cumbersome ZZR or overweight Busa).

A bike needs to be fit for it's intended purpose whether its riding balls out with a razor blade up your arse and sore wrists after a couple of hours or all day long cruising on one of the worlds most powerful machines in comfort.

    Each to their own.……

As a cost cutting measure (because we all want cheaper stuff) nobody holds stock of anything. If you all would only pay more they would have the parts in stock.

Nah - no "perhaps" about it.

And I don't need to rely on having some big penis extension and showing off to people like you do, in order to have self esteem and self worth. I don't need to show off what I own and what I can do to feel good about myself or to get respect.
Maybe you shouldn't get so concerned about an electronic comment then? Hmmmm....fool you with Jedi mind tricks I will young skywalker......jeez hurry up friday.

You're assuming, of course, that farq2 has a small capacity bike. For all you know, he could have some large capacity machine.
Conversely, if someone has "R1" or "GSXR1000" or "ZZR1200" or "HD FXZPQRST" in their profile, there's no guarantee that that's what they've got either. :spudwhat:
