    Parking rules?

The road code doesn't seem to be very clear when it comes to the legal way of parking.

The motorcycle road code details the method of parking much as it would for a car (it seems like a cut and paste attempt and its the only part of the road code with no illustrations) i.e. stay as far left as possible, no angle parking unless its marked as such etc. etc.

I've always angled parked my bike in suburban streets with the rear tyre to the curb at about 55 degrees from the curb. Is this technically illegal? I only ask cos I've got a test coming and I don;t want to fail on having the parked wrong before I start!

Parking arrangements are largely determined by local authority by-laws. That's why there can be discernable differences around the country.

i almost always park on an angle as well. no way am i going to park length ways. chances are, the bike would either get hit by a car that didnt see it, or blocked in by other bikes parking the same way.

when using angle parks in town, i back in, and park with the front wheel level with the back end of the car next door... easy to see by cars before they have commited themselves to pulling in. always freak out when i see scooters using car parks, and they are right up against the kerb. most car drivers will be halfway in the park before they realise.

You are worrying too much. You will pass your test. Everyone does. Quit worrying. Park like everyone else does - its not this important.

You will be fine, you will see.

I know that I regularly park illegally.
By backing into an angled park, I am naughty. However, this prevents the bike possibly rolling forwards and off of the sidestand, due to the downhill angle of most angle parks.

Thanks for the replies guys I think that DB's right and I'm worrying to much.

I thought it might be the motorbiking equivilent of a U turn i.e. everybody does them you never get in trouble for doing one unless you do one in your driving test.

    Cheers,
