Buying gear in Christchurch - where to go?

Hi guys. I just got my first bike, a CBR250RR. I'm getting my learners on friday. I live in Christchurch and need to get all the gear. Where are some good places to go? And what should I be spending on what?

    Cheers for the help

    Tom

Awesome, welcome to KB Tom I got a lot of my gear at Budget Motorcycle Spares in Opawa, it's worth taking a look in there to get an idea of prices for new gear. Leather and Lace have good range of jackets and draggin jeans too.

Depends on your budget... If you're looking at spending big bucks Sportszone has got Alpinestar Leathers and Arai Helmets.

Personally I like the guys at Street and Sport (the Triumph dealership) and I'm sure Phil and Sarah will take good care of you if you pop in there.

Congratulations on the bike - one of the nicest 250 sports out there and pretty much the best year as well! Have fun!

Mmmm, lace.... I can just picture Tom in lace on his CBR.

-Get some good gear mate - it's worth it when you crash!

Hi Mikkel. I got a pre purchase inspection on the bike at Street and Sport. They were great to deal with, so I'll probably go see them again for the gear. What do you guys think of Casbolts? I've heard a real mix of comments about that place...

Ok thats a bit of a scary thing to say ha ha.

Thanks for the welcome guys, I can see the motorcycle community (in NZ and around the world) is awesome! Can't wait to get on my bike.

Yeah, 'Budget Motorcycle Spares' (not far from AMI Stadium) are worth a look. Good range and good prices. Not a flashy shop but I guess that's how they keep their prices down.

Me saying it is not the scary thing if you think about it for a second

Anyway, my personal recommendation would be to go around to pretty much all of the bike shops and have a look at their selection. Try on different brands and sizes and THEN start thinking about what you want. Whether you want leather or cordura, whether you want one-or two-piece, whether you want zip-together, etc, etc.

Have fun shopping, most of the guys out there are really good guys.

I agree - start with a baseline and shop! It's fun out there on Manchester Street.

Street and Sport are having a pre-Brass Monkey sale this Thursday at 5.30, with bbq and drinks. Well worth a look, their gear is great quality.

There's also a place on the eastern side of Fitzgerald Ave a couple of blocks before Moorehouse. They do jackets and pants. Good range of leather but also some decent synthetic gear too. Worth a look. I got Mrs Oakie's jacket from there.
