So far as vehicle theft goes, it is so much more personal when a bike is stolen. Good luck with sorting out this unwelcome pile of crap.

Just a warning afther my 2 bikes were stolen, I thought because the bikes were stolen from within side the house, internal acess garage i thought i may have been covered but i was so very very wrong, they are not covered by home contents insurance, and far as i know are not covered by any insurance company.
AMI wil cover a bike for about $80 a year.
i have mine through OMI brockers $30 month

Andy I feel for you dude, we have lost bikes as well
You guys must try and make it hard for them fix a clamp to the concrete floor via a huge mother F@#KER chain, use an expensive one, treat your bike like a Harley!! LOCK IT DOWN.
Bikes are definately not covered by a standard contents policy.
We have hubbys DRZ covered by AMI for fire, theft and transit damage. Also have disk lock fitted and chained up well out of sight.
No matter how well hidden from view your bikes are stored, it is always a worry that someone will see you bringing bikes home and pounce at a later time. Especially if where you store your bikes is visible from the road and you can be seen putting them away.

Yeah don't use cheap arse chain. You know, the stuff you can buy by the metre at placemakers that they chop very easily with bolt cutters? Especially so if your bikes are stored in your garage, surrounded by a multitude of very "useful" tools such as say....boltcutters.
You can get braided wire type locks that are extremely hard to cut through....you might pay up to say $200 for a really good one but it's cheaper than replacing your bike if it wasn't insured.
If you have brake disks, fit disk locks also, they certainly aren't thiefproof but are another deterent.
